Abstract:
A scintillation crystal can include Ln(1-y)REyX3, wherein Ln represents a rare earth element, RE represents a different rare earth element, y has a value in a range of 0 to 1, and X represents a halogen. In an embodiment, the scintillation crystal is doped with a Group 1 element, a Group 2 element, or a mixture thereof, and the scintillation crystal is formed from a melt having a concentration of such elements or mixture thereof of at least approximately 0.02 wt. %. In another embodiment, the scintillation crystal can have unexpectedly improved proportionality and unexpectedly improved energy resolution properties. In a further embodiment, a radiation detection apparatus can include the scintillation crystal, a photosensor, and an electronics device. Such a radiation detection apparatus can be useful in a variety of applications.

novos transportadores de pentose e usos dos mesmos. a invenção se refere à produção de biocombustíveis, proteínas, peptídeos e outros compostos de valor agregado a partir de fontes de carbono bruto. os inventores identificaram genes que codificam novos trasportadores de pentose, em particular, transportadores de l-arabinose e/ou d-xilose. a regulação dos genes de aspergillus niger através de xlnr e arar foi instrumental na identificação destes genes e suas especificidades de substrato. os novos transportadores de pentose e seus ácidos nucleicos codificantes são fornecidos. também são fornecidas as células hospedeiras que (super) expressam um transportador, e aplicações industriais das mesmas, por exemplo, na produção de biocombustível.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of effecting a change in a cell using a transfer system which is contacted with the cell to be changed. The transfer system comprises a fusion protein which is transferred into the cell using the VirB/VirD4 transfer system. According to the invention a fusion protein BA is introduced into the cell to be changed comprising i) as a first part A an oligopeptide comprising 3 adjacent amino acids identical to or corresponding to the amino acids of the C-termninal amino acids 1-40 of VirF, VirD2, VirE2, VirE3 or MobA, and ii) as a second part B a polypeptide capable of effecting a cell-changing activity in the cell to be changed, wherein the polypeptide is attached with the C-terminal end thereof with the N-terminal end of the first part.

Serratia plymuthica strain A30, BCCM Deposit No. LMG P-26170, its analogues or functionally equivalent strains thereto, provides a biological control agent against plant disease caused by a bacterial pathogen, particularly a soft rot, e.g. blackleg. The pathogen is Dickeya spp., Pectobacterium spp., and Ralstonia spp.; including Dickeya sp. biovar 3 strain. The deposited strain and its variants are formulated in an agriculturally or horticulturally acceptable diluent, carrier, filler or adjuvant. Plants or plant parts, particularly potato tubers, containing the deposited strain provide useful propagation material free of soft rot or blackleg disease.
