An information storing medium including application for acquiring meta data and an apparatus and a method for acquiring the meta data are provided to update previously stored meta data for a disc library or add meta data for a disc library with respect to a new information storing medium by downloading the meta data for the disc library from a server through a network. A local storage(320) stores meta data for a disc library read from an information storing medium or meta data for a disc library downloaded from a server. A disc library manager(330) extracts information necessary for downloading the meta data for the disc library from the server, and controls connection with the server on the basis of the necessary information to download the meta data for the disc library from the server. A network unit(340) downloads the meta data for the disc library from the server.

본 발명은 기록 매체의 데이터 공간 관리 방법이 개시되어 있다. 본 발명은 데이터 공간을 소정수의 고정된 크기의 데이터 블록으로 나누고, 각각의 파일에 의해 점유된 데이터 블록들을 하나의 파일당 하나씩의 연결 리스트로 구성하고, 기록 매체상에 존재하는 모든 데이터 블록들 중 어떤 파일에도 사용되고 있지 않은 자유 데이터 블록들을 하나의 자유 블록 연결 리스트로 구성함으로서, 파일에 데이터를 기록할 때 새로운 데이터 저장 공간이 필요하면 자유 블록 연결 리스트내의 앵커 블록 식별자가 가리키고 있는 데이터 블록을 할당해서 기록 동작을 실시간으로 동작시킬 수 있고, 파일 삭제시 해당 파일에 의해 점유되었던 데이터 블록들을 자유 블록 연결 리스트의 맨 끝으로 반납하여 특정 물리적인 영역에 대한 반복적인 사용으로 인한 기록 매체의 물리적인 열화를 최소화할 수 있다.

본 발명에는 기록 매체의 기록가능한 용량/시간 측정 방법, 표시 방법 및 장치가 개시되어 있다. 기록 매체의 정보 구조를 이용하여 기록 매체의 종류를 판별해서 전체 용량을 얻고, 기록 매체의 파일 시스템을 체크해서 파일 시스템으로부터 기록된 용량을 얻고, 기록 매체의 탐색 데이터를 체크해서 탐색 데이터로부터 임시 삭제된 용량을 얻어서 얻어진 전체 용량에서 얻어진 기록된 용량은 감산하고 임시 삭제된 용량은 가산해서 기록가능한 용량을 측정함으로써 임시 삭제된 영역을 고려하여 보다 실효성있는 기록가능한 용량 및/또는 시간을 제시하여 사용자의 편의를 도모할 수 있다.

본 발명에는 패킷 데이터의 고속 탐색을 위한 정보 생성 방법과 이 정보를 저장하는 기록 매체, 이를 이용하는 기록 및/또는 재생 장치가 개시되어 있다. 본 발명은 패킷화된 데이터를 일정한 크기로 구분하여 기본 단위로 생성하고, 이 기본 단위마다 기본 단위 정보를 생성하되, 이 기본 단위 정보에는 해당 기본 단위의 맨 처음 패킷 데이터의 도착 시간을 의미하는 정보(FATS)를 포함하며, 이 정보를 데이터열과 함께 기록함으로써 타임 서치 등과 같은 특수 재생시 이 정보를 이용하여 원하는 임의의 위치를 고속으로 탐색할 수 있다. 특히, 바이너리 서치등과 같은 빠른 탐색 방법을 이용하면 보다 더 고속으로 탐색할 수 있다.

PURPOSE: A device for reproducing digital data and a method therefor are provided to reproduce contents of reproduced data for a user while reproducing the data according to a progress degree of the data reproducing process. CONSTITUTION: When a reproduction command for commanding data stored on the first data storage medium(110) to be reproduced to the second data storage medium(150) is inputted, a controller(130) reads the data stored on the first data storage medium(110) with a buffer. The controller(130) transmits the data stored in the buffer to the second data storage medium(150) to store the data, extracts sample data corresponding to a portion of the stored data, and outputs the extracted sample data to a data decoder(170). The data decoder(170) decodes the sample data, and outputs the decoded data to a reproduction device.

A reproducing apparatus (1) for reproducing contents recorded on an information storage medium and a method of providing bookmark information of the reproducing apparatus are provided. The method includes storing bookmark information comprising an annotation input by a user with respect to selected contents and a locator necessary for reproducing the selected content, and sending the bookmark information to another reproducing apparatus (1) through the Internet. Accordingly, a user can bookmark the particular location of the predetermined content and annotate the content. In addition, the bookmark information stored in one reproducing apparatus can be sent to another reproducing apparatus through the Internet.

PURPOSE: A recorder, in which thumbnail is recorded, a device and a method for recording thumbnail, and a device and a method for producing thumbnail are provided to more appropriately represent corresponding program, and to easily discriminate thumbnail by producing the thumbnail as animated image. CONSTITUTION: A recorder, in which thumbnail is recorded, includes program, and navigation information. The program contains video data and/or audio data. The navigation information defines thumbnail capable of being produced as animated image in connection with the program. The navigation information contains an identifier of corresponding program, production start location and time and production finish location and time inside the corresponding program.

PURPOSE: A recording medium for storing additional information to secure continuous regeneration between stream object information is provided to regenerate stream objects without discontinuation by using stream object information including seamless information and seamless time control information. CONSTITUTION: A first area includes a plurality of SOBs(Stream Object) formed in a type of packetized data to which arrival time stamp of the corresponding packet data is added. A second area has extra SOB information for each SOB in the first area, and has SOB information including seamless information representing seamless regeneration with a preceding SOB and seamless time control information controlling an output point of the corresponding SOB to be reproduced continuously.

PURPOSE: A thumbnail data recording device is provided to record a thumbnail playable by motion pictures to identify a program by assigning a predetermined section of bit streams corresponding to the program as the thumbnail. CONSTITUTION: A thumbnail data recording device includes a control part(51), an encoder(52), and a recording part(53). The control part generates navigation data for defining thumbnail for a program including A/V data. The recording part records the program and records the navigation information provided by the control part to an optical disc(500). The encoder encodes the program when the program is input as non-encoded data and transmits the encoded program data to the recording part. As a section to be assigned by a user as a thumbnail is played, its play-starting/ending inputs are transmitted to the control part, so that the control part generates thumbnail pointer and a map table.

PURPOSE: A thumbnail picture writing method for a menu screen and disk recording media thereof is provided, which has a high correlation with the content of a program which a thumbnail picture is an object of a subject expression. CONSTITUTION: A thumbnail picture writing method for a menu screen comprises the steps of: extracting one frame picture included in a moving picture program when a thumbnail picture(14) expresses the subject of the moving picture program; and extracting a picture included in a still picture program when a thumbnail picture(12) expresses the subject of the still picture program, wherein the thumbnail picture is selected from a thumbnail file having a plurality of thumbnail picture to write and the thumbnail picture is extracted from an intra picture when the moving picture program is MPEG. Thereby, the thumbnail picture having a high correlation with the content of a program is written.
