    Abstract: PURPOSE: An edge-type back light unit and a liquid crystal display using the same which is available for local dimming are provided to be manufactured more slimmer and lighter and increase display quality by using a edge-type back light. CONSTITUTION: A back light unit is composed of an upper light guiding plates(LGP1~LGP2), a first reflective body, an upper light source arrays(LED1~4), a lower light guiding plates, a lower light arrays(LED5~8). The upper light guiding plates are partitioned. The first reflective body is formed on at least one side surface among sides facing the upper adjacent light guiding plates. The upper light source arrays illuminates the light to side surface of light guiding plate by being arranged to face the side surface of the light guiding plates. The upper light guiding plates are arranged under the upper light guides and are partitioned into four. The second reflective body is formed on at least one side among sides facing the adjacent lower light guiding plates. The lower light source arrays illuminates the light on one side of the lower light guiding plates by being arranged to face side surface of the lower guiding plates.
