Abstract: A coating composition is provided comprising a) an aqueous dispersion, having a pH of less than 7.5, of silica nanoparticles having average particle diameters of 40 nanometers or less, b) an alkoxysilane oligomer; c) a silane coupling agent, and d) optionally a metal β-diketone complexing agent. The compositions may be used to prepare coated articles wherein the coating is substantially uniform in thickness, durably adheres to the substrate, and provides hydrophilic and/or antireflection surface properties to the substrate.

Abstract: A method of making a crosslinked fluoropolymer is described. The method comprises applying a composition to a substrate, wherein the composition comprises fluoropolymer and a fluorinated solvent, one or more curing agents comprising an ethylenically unsaturated group and an electron donor group or precursor thereof. The method further comprises removing the solvent and curing the fluoropolymer with actinic (e.g. ultraviolet “UV”) radiation. Also described is a composition comprising a fluoropolymer dissolved in a fluorinated solvent, and one or more curing agents comprising an ethylenically unsaturated group and an electron donor group or precursor thereof; and article comprising the crosslinked fluoropolymer.

Abstract: Coating compositions are described comprising a fluoropolymer; a fluorinated solvent; and a fluorinated alcohol. In some embodiments, the coating composition further comprises a compound with one or more alkoxy silane groups and/or a compound with one or more amine groups. When such compound is a crosslinking compound, the fluoropolymer typically comprises cure sites. The coating composition may further comprise fillers such as silica, glass fibre, (e.g. crystalline) fluoropolymer particles, and combination thereof. Also described are methods of coating a substrate and articles, such as telecommunication articles.

Abstract: Electronic telecommunication articles are described comprising a crosslinked fluoropolymer layer. In typical embodiments, the crosslinked fluoropolymer layer is a substrate, patterned (e.g. photoresist) layer, insulating layer, passivation layer, cladding, protective layer, or a combination thereof. Also describes are methods of making an electronic telecommunications article and method of forming a patterned fluoropolymer layer. The fluoropolymer preferably comprises at least 80, 85, or 90% by weight of polymerized units of perfluorinated monomers and cure sites selected from nitrile, iodine, bromine, and chlorine. Illustrative electronic communication articles include integrated circuits, printed circuit boards, antennas, and optical fiber cables. Fluoropolymer compositions are also described.

Abstract: Described herein are compositions including a silanol compound that is suitably synthesized, stored, and coated from an aqueous solution. Once coated and cured on a suitable surface, the aqueous silanol compositions result in cleanable and abrasion resistant surfaces, such as dry-erase surfaces that release permanent marker by rubbing with a dry cloth or towel. Also disclosed herein are methods of making the silanol compounds, methods of making cleanable substrates, and cleanable substrates suitably formed using the disclosed methods.

Abstract: Presently described are components of a spray application system. At least one component comprises a liquid repellent surface layer. The liquid repellent surface (e.g. layer) may comprise a porous layer and a lubricant impregnated into pores of the porous layer; a fluoropolymer; a fluorochemical material and an organic polymeric binder; or a fluorochemical material melt additive and a thermoplastic polymeric material component. The component is typically a liquid reservoir, a liquid reservoir liner, a lid for a liquid reservoir or liner, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, the component comprises a thermoplastic polymeric material. In some favored embodiments, the component is a removable liquid reservoir or liner. In some favored embodiments, the component is a collapsible liquid reservoir or liner. The spray application system typically further comprises a gravity-fed spray gun. Also described are spray application systems, methods of using a spray application system, as well as methods of making a component of a spray application system wherein the component has a liquid repellent surface.
