Abstract: A device displays a first user interface on a first display, including a plurality of objects and corresponding to a second user interface on a second display. While a first object is displayed as a selected object in the second user interface, the device: detects a first input requesting information about a second object; and in response to detecting the first input, displays information about the second object in the first user interface and maintains display of the first object as the selected object in the second user interface. After displaying the information, the device detects a second input selecting the second object. In response to detecting selection of the second input, the device: displays the second object as the selected object in the first user interface; and provides, to the second display, information that enables the second user interface to display the second object as the selected object.

Abstract: A device receives an instruction to authorize a relationship corresponding to communication over a first data connection with a peripheral display unit, and receives authentication data from the peripheral display unit over another data connection. The device then establishes a connection with the peripheral display unit over the first data connection, including providing the authentication information to the peripheral display unit. The device monitors a battery charge level and battery-usage patterns and provides alerts in accordance therewith. The device displays a reconfiguration interface for configuring the user interfaces of one or more peripheral display units, and detects a request to configure an interface of a peripheral. In response to detecting the request, the device displays an updated representation of the peripheral interface, and afterwards transmits instructions to the peripheral to display the user interface in accordance with the request.

Abstract: An authentication controller coupled to a first communication port of a portable computing device is allowed to provide authentication on behalf of an accessory device coupled to a second communication port of the portable computing device. In one embodiment, a dongle that includes an authentication controller can be coupled with the portable computing device. Accessory devices can also be coupled with the potable computing device through other ports, including wireless ports. The dongle can provide cross-transport authentication for accessories that do not include authentication controllers. Once the dongle had been properly authenticated, the permissions granted to the dongle port can be transferred to a communication port coupled with an accessory.

Abstract: Remote user interfaces for portable media devices provided improved access by accessories to media assets and metadata stored in a database of a portable media device, enhancing a user's ability to control operation of the portable media device using a remote user interface provided by the accessory. In one example, an accessory can determine whether the database of the portable media device was updated while the portable media device was disconnected from the accessory. In a second example, an accessory can create and manage a playlist for the portable media device and can incorporate into the playlist tracks already queued for playback when the accessory connects to the portable media device. In a third example, an accessory can obtain database navigation history and initialize a database navigation interface to match the database navigation history.
