Date Jul. 3, 1997A microcellular PU elastomer having improved dynamic mechanical properties and based on an isocyanate component consisting essentially of 4,4'-MDI and further customary constituents has a physicochemical structure which, in the gel permeation chromatograph (GPC) of a solution of the microcellular polyurethane elastomer prepared at 90 DEG C. in N,N-dimethylformamide containing 1 percent of di-n-butylamine measured against polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as standard, displays a signal occurring in addition to low molecular weight main signal and comprising one or more peaks at an (apparent) molar mass of greater than 250,000 g/mol which becomes smaller or disappears on addition of lithium chloride to this solution, and a urea content of from 14 to 18% by weight. A process is also provided for preparing such a microcellular PU elastomer having improved dynamic mechanical properties. The microcellular PU elastomers can be used for producing damping elements.

    Abstract: La presente invencion se refiere a un elastomero PU con mejores características mecánicas y dinámicas, a base de un componente isocianato que consiste esencialmente en 4, 4'-MDI y de otros componentes normales. El elastomero propuesto, después del templado a temperaturas de 100-120 degree C durante 8-24 horas tiene un rango de fusion entre 130 degree C como límite inferior mínimo y 230 degree C como límite superior mínimo, medido por calorimetría de rastreo diferencial (CRF) a una velocidad de calentamiento de 20 degree C/min y un contenido de urea de 14-18% en peso. También se describe un proceso para producir éste elastomero PU microcelular con mejores características mecánicas-dinámicas y el uso de los elastomeros en la produccion de elementos amortiguadores.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a microcellular PU elastomer with improved dynamicmechanical characteristics, based on an isocyanate component consisting essentially of 4,4'-MDI and other standard components. The elastomer in question has a physical-chemical structure characterised by a one- or two-peak signal next to the low-molecular main signal for an (apparent) molar mass of greater than 250,000 g/mol as measured by gel-permeation chromatography from a solution of the microcellular PU elastomer produced at 90 ~C in N,Ndimethylformamide with 1 % di-n-butylamine, against polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) as the standard, the signal being reduced or eliminated following addition of lithium chloride to this solution. The elastomer has a urea content of 14-18 wt %. Also disclosed are a process for producing such a microcellular PU elastomer with improved dynamic-mechanical characteristics and the use of said elastomer to produce damping elements.
