    Abstract: A process for the preparation of modified polyphenylene ether resins by grafting fumaric acid, preferably at from 270 DEG to 350 DEG C., onto polyphenylene ethers which are mixed with vinylaromatic polymers, and modified polyphenylene ether resins consisting of from 4.95 to 95 parts by weight of polyphenylene ether, from 95 to 4.95 parts by weight of vinylaromatic polymer and from 0.05 to 10 parts by weight of grafted fumaric acid.

    Abstract: Paper fibres are bonded in absence of metallic salts at pH 5-9 pref. 6-8 using anionic polymer dispersions by polymsn. with a hydrophobic monomer in aq. medium in presence of emulsifiers contng. COOH gps., where the dispersions contain particles of mean size 200 nm and having Tg. 70 degrees C. Monomers are e.g. (meth)acrylic acid esters with >3C alcohols, or vinyl aromatic cpds. Emulsifiers are salts of (iso) fatty acids or resinic acids and their hydrogenation/disproportionation products or ethylene or diene reacted with maleic acid derivs. The process prevents growth of algae and deposits of adhesive and foaming. Corrosion is also reduced because the soln. is at near neutral pH in absence of salts.

A+B+C+D, of a thermoplastic copolymer from (b11) 30-90.9% of an 8-12C vinylaromatic hydrocarbon, (b12) 9-40% of a 3-6C ethylenically unsatd. nitrile monomer, (b13) 0.1-30% of a maleic acid deriv., or a copolymerisable ethylenically unsatd. monomer with (b14) an epoxy gp., (b15) an oxazoline gp., and/or (b16) an OH gp., and (b17) 0-30% of an ethylenically unsatd. monomer copolymerisable with (b11-B16), (C) 2-95.99 pts. wt., w.r.t. A+B+C+D+, of a graft copolymer from 30-90% of a butadiene and/or acrylaterubber with Tg below 0 deg. C as graft backbone, and 70-10% of copolymer (B), prepd. in presence of the graft backbone, as graft sheath, and (D) 0.01-10 pts. w.r.t. A+B+C+D, of a cpd. with at least 2OH, thiol, epoxy and/or amino gps.
