    Abstract: The present invention provides a multiple layer thermoplastic structure of a (1) skin layer selected from the group consisting of polypropylene, ethylene homopolymers having a density of from about 0.930 g/cc to about 0.960 g/cc, and ethylene homopolymers having a density of from about 0.930 g/cc to about 0.960 g/cc blended with an ethylene and a-olefin copolymers having a density less than about 0.930 g/cc, the skin layer having a thickness of greater than about 3.0 mils; (2) a radio frequency susceptible layer adhered to the skin layer, the radio frequency susceptible layer having a dielectric loss greater than 0.05 at 1-60 MHz and at temperatures of ambient to 250° C., the radio frequency susceptible layer having: (a) a first polyolefin selected from the group consisting of polypropylene and polypropylene copolymers, (b) a second polyolefin selected from the group consisting of ethylene copolymers, ultra-low density polyethylene, polybutene, and butene ethylene copolymers; (c) a radio frequency susceptible polymer selected from the group consisting of (i) ethylene copolymers having 50-85% ethylene content with comonomers selected from a first group consisting of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, ester derivatives of acrylic acid with alcohols having 1-10 carbons, ester derivatives of methacrylic acid with alcohols having 1-10 carbons, vinyl acetate, and vinyl alcohol (ii) homopolymers and copolymers containing at least one segment of urethanes, esters, ureas, imides, sulfones, and amides, and (d) a compatibilizing agent of a styrene and hydrocarbon copolymer; wherein the structure when fabricated into a 50 ml container has a water vapor transmission rate of less than 8% by weight after the container has been autoclaved at 121° C. for 20 minutes and stored for 90 days in an environmentally regulated compartment having 15% relative humidity at 40° C.

    Abstract: Una estructura termoplástica de múltiples capas: una capa de recubrimiento seleccionada del grupo que consiste de polipropileno, homopolímeros de etileno que tienen una densidad desde aproximadamente 0,930 g /cc a aproximadamente 0,960 g /cc, y homopolímeros de etileno que tienen una densidad desde aproximadamente 0,930 g /cc a aproximadamente 0,960 g /cc mezclados con un copolímero de etileno y alfa olefina con una densidad inferior a aproximadamente 0,930 g /cc , la capa de recubrimiento tiene un espesor superior a aproximadamente 3,0 mil; (2) una capa susceptible de radio frecuencia adherida a la capa de recubrimiento, la capa susceptible de radio frecuencia tiene una pérdida dieléctrica superior a 0,05 a 1-60 MHz y a temperaturas que van de la temperatura ambiente a 250ºC, la capa susceptible de radio frecuencia tiene:(a) una primera poliolefina seleccionada del grupo que consiste de polipropileno y copolímeros de polipropileno, (b) una segunda poliolefina seleccionada del grupo que consiste de copolímeros de etileno, polietileno de densidad ultra baja, polibuteno, y copolímeros de buteno y etileno;(c) un polímero susceptible de radio frecuencia seleccionado del grupo que consiste de (i) copolímeros de etileno que tienen 50 - 85% de contenido de etileno con co-monómeros seleccionados de un primer grupo que consiste de ácido acrílico, ácido metacrílico, derivados de éster del ácido acrílico con alcoholes que tienen 1 - 10 carbonos, derivados de éster de ácido metacrílico con alcoholes que tienen 1I - 10 carbonos, acetato de vinilo, y alcohol vinílico; (ii) homopolímeros y copolímeros que contienen por lo menos un segmento de uretano, ésteres, ureas, imidas, sulfonas, y amidas, y(d) un agente compatibilizante de un copolímero de estireno e hidrocarburo;en la cual la estructura, cuando se la fabrica en un recipiente de 50 ml tiene una tasa de transmisión de vapor de agua inferior al 8% en peso luego de que el recipiente se sometió a autoclave a 121ºC durante 20 minutos y se almacenó durante 90 días en un compartimiento regulado con el medio ambiente que tiene un 15% de humedad relativa a 40ºC. La estructura de la reivindicación 1, en la cual el copolímero de estireno e hidrocarburo es un copolímero en bloque seleccionado de copolímeros de bloques dobles, de bloques triples y bloques en forma de estrella.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for connecting rounded members between planar members comprising the steps of providing a rounded member having an outer layer having a first melting temperature range and an inner layer concentrically disposed within the outer layer and having a second melting temperature range, the second melting temperature range being warmer than the first melting temperature range, providing a pair of opposed planar members, the planar members each having a melting temperature within the first melting temperature range, positioning an end portion of the rounded member between perimeter edges of the pair of planar members to define an interface area, applying pressure to the interface area to collapse the end portion of the rounded member to essentially a flattened position, applying sealing energy to the interface area to heat the rounded member to a temperature within the first melting temperature range but below the second melting temperature range, thereby forming a weld between the planar members, and the rounded member in the interface area, and, releasing the pressure to the interface area wherein the end portion of the rounded member returns to an open position.
