Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a copolymer suitable as a modifier (auxiliary) of a rubber or resinous polymer by subjecting an organic solvent sludge or an organic solvent of an epoxidized block copolymer to steam stripping in the presence of a surfactant. CONSTITUTION: This method for recovering an epoxidized block copolymer is to recover the copolymer by carrying out steam stripping of an organic solvent slurry or an organic solution of epoxidized block copolymer synthesized by epoxidizing (A) a polymer block composed mainly of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon compound and (B) a block copolymer comprising a polymer block composed mainly of a conjugated diene compound in the presence of a surfactant comprising a nonionic surfactant, preferably having 10-19 of HLB value. Furthermore, the surfactant is used in an amount of 1-20000ppm (especially preferably 10-500ppm) based on water in a steam stripping tank.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a colorless, transparent, high-molecular polycarbonate without using COCl2 by polycondensing a given phenol with a carbonic diester in the presence of specific catalysts. CONSTITUTION:A dihydric phenol (e.g. 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane) is polycondensed with a carbonic diester (e.g. diphenyl carbonate) in the presence of a catalyst selected from among basic nitrogen compounds (e.g. 4- dimethylaminopyridine) and another catalyst selected from among compounds generating a benzyl carbanion which are represented by the formula (wherein R1 is H, a 1-5C alkoxy, or nitro; R2 and R3 each is H, a 1-5C alkyl, or phenyl; and M is an alkali (or alkaline earth) metal).

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a thermally stable polycarbonate by limiting the concentration of a monohydric phenol contained in a polycarbonate produced by a given process. CONSTITUTION:The objective polycarbonate is obtained by the melt polycondensation of a dihydroxy compound [e.g. 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane] and a carbonic diester (e.g. diphenyl carbonate) in the presence of a transesterification catalyst (e.g. 4-dimethylaminopyridine) according to the transesterification process, wherein the concentration of a monohydric phenol contained is limited to 1000ppm or less. Further, preferably, the concentration of the dihydroxy compound as the starting material is limited to 1000ppm or less.

The catalyst is composed of an electron-donative amine compound and at least one kind of compound containing an element selected from group IIb, IVb and Vb elements of the periodic table, e.g. Sb, Bi, Sn, Pb, Zn or Cd.
