Abstract: A serving RNC signals the load contribution of all mobiles for which it is the serving RNC to all cells controlled by another RNC that are affected by the uplink transmissions of those mobiles. This allows the other RNC to determine the contribution of those mobiles to the total uplink interference in its cells. In one example, the uplink load maybe estimated using mobile-based path gain measurements.

Abstract: A system network and method improving handovers, particularly for reducing the amount of inter-cellular transfer information stored in base station controllers or radio network controllers, is disclosed. Instead of storing routing information for every possible inter-cellular handover at each control node, signaling network technology is employed to effectuate communication of all relevant inter-cellular handover information between all of the control nodes, thereby coordinating routing information transference across a distributed system.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for adaptive mobile station presence verification in a cellular system. Mobile station presence verification is performed only for selected requested handoffs from a first base station to a second base station, where the selected requested handoffs are chosen based on a rate of mobile station presence verifications per requested handoffs from the first base station to the second base station, that is adaptively changed as handoffs occur. A wireless terminal method comprises (prior to making a request to participate in a circuit switched call with the second network) the wireless terminal (30) camping on a respective selected cell (of each of the first network and the second network and thereby having tuned to both the selected cell for the first network and the selected cell for the second network. In view of already camping on the selected cell of the second network, the wireless terminal (30) does not make a measurement with respect to a cell of the second network in a time period between the making of the request to participate in the circuit switch call and actual establishment of the circuit switched call with the second network.
