Abstract: Flame-repellant linear polyesters are obtained by incorporating by condensation phosphorus-compounds having the formula O &uarr& HO-P-R-COOH, ¦ R1 wherein R and R1 are organic radicals which may also contain hereto atoms into the linear polyesters, preferably those from terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. These polyesters are materials of which flame-repellent filaments, fibers, sheets, press-moulded and injection-moulded articles may be made. Products of the invention can be used whereever especially acute risks of ignition and fire exist.

Abstract: 2-Hydroxyethane-phosphonic acid diesters, 2-hydroxyethylphoshinic acid esters and the corresponding thiophoshonic acid-O,O-diesters or thiophosphinic acid-O-esters of the formula XOR1 PARALLEL HO-CH-CH2-P ANGLE (I) ¦ R3(O)nR2 wherein R1 is alkyl having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms, R2 has the meaning of R1 or represents cycloalkyl having up to 10 carbon atoms, alkenyl having up to 18 carbon atoms, aryl having up to 14 carbon atoms or aralkyl having up to 15 carbon atoms, R3 means hydrogen, alkyl having up to 18 carbon atoms, alkenyl having up to 18 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl having up to 10 carbon atoms, aryl having up to 14 carbon atoms or aralkyl having up to 15 carbon atoms, the substituents R1-R3 optionally being substituted, X represents oxygen or sulfur and n represents either 0 or 1, are prepared from 2-acyloxyethane-phosphonic acid diesters, 2-acyloxy-ethyl-phoshinic acid esters or the corresponding thiophoshonic acid-O,O-diesters or thiophoshinic acid-O-esters and are important intermediate products for the preparation of plant protecting agents and flame-proofing agents.

Abstract: Production of halogen-containing tertiary phosphine oxides of the general formula I R1O PARALLEL ANGLE P-R3 (I) R2 in which the substituents R1, R2 and R3, being identical or different, stand for an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or aralkyl radical, at least one of those radicals containing at least one aliphatically combined halogen atom. The compounds are made by reacting one or more compounds of the general formula II R4O PARALLEL ANGLE P-R6 (II) R5 in which R4, R5 and R6, being identical or different, stand for an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or aralkyl radical, at least one of those R4, R5 and R6 radicals containing an aliphatically combined hydroxyl group, with at least equivalent proportions, based on the number of hydroxyl groups, of gaseous hydrogen halide with agitation, if desired, at temperatures within the range about 100 DEG and 300 DEG C; freeing the reaction mixture, during the reaction or after termination thereof, from water originating from the reaction; and separating from the resulting reaction mixture the halogen-containing tertiary phosphine oxide by distillation or crystallization.
