    Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving a packet via high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) are disclosed. At least one HSDPA medium access control (MAC-hs) service data unit (SDU) is segmented into a plurality of segments. MAC-hs protocol data units (PDUs) are generated from the segments wherein each MAC-hs PDU includes at least one segment. Each MAC-hs PDU may include one segment from a single MAC-hs SDU. The size of the segments may match to the size of the MAC-hs PDUs minus the size of the header of the MAC-hs PDU. The sizes of the segments may be determined based on the number of segments to which the MAC-hs SDU is segmented. Alternatively, each MAC-hs PDU may include a combination of segments from a plurality of MAC-hs SDUs or a combination of at least one segment from one MAC-hs SDU and at least one entire MAC-hs SDU.

    Abstract: A method implemented in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for transmitting a channel quality indication (CQI) report or other measurement report begins by receiving a trigger. A CQI report is transmitted to a handover target Node B until a stop condition is reached. The WTRU will stop transmitting CQI reports to the target Node B if the stop condition is reached. A WTRU configured to perform the method includes an antenna, a transmitter/receiver connected to the antenna, and a processor communicating with the transmitter/receiver, the processor configured to transmit the CQI report to the handover target Node B.

    Abstract: Abstract A method and apparatus for generating and processing a MAC-ehs PDU are disclosed. In a Node-B, MAC-ehs SDUs received from an upper layer are multiplexed based on a logical channel identity.     Abstract: A method and apparatus for cell update while in a CellFACH state are disclosed. After selecting a target cell, system information is read from the target 5 cell including high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) common system information. A radio network temporary identity (RNTI) received in a source cell is cleared and a variable HSDSCHRECEPTION is set to TRUE. An HS-DSCH medium access control (MAC-hs) entity is configured based on the HS-DSCH common system information. High speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) 10 transmission is then received in the target cell. A CELL UPDATE message is sent to notify of a cell change. The HSDPA transmission may be received using a common H-RNTI broadcast in the system information, a reserved H-RNTI as requested in a CELL UPDATE message, or a temporary identity which is a subset of a U-RNTI. The MAC-hs entity may be reset.     Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling an optimization of handover procedures between universal terrestrial radio access (UTRA) release 6 (R6) cells and UTRA release 7 (R7) cells are disclosed. When a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) is moving between an R6 cell and an R7 cell, or between R7 cells, a handover is initiated from a source Node-B to a target Node-B. In the R7 cell, the enhanced medium access control (MAC) functionality including flexible radio link control (RLC) protocol data unit (PDU) size and high speed MAC (MAC-hs) segmentation and multiplexing of different priority queues are supported. After the handover, a MAC layer and/or an RLC layer are reconfigured or reset based on functionality supported by the target Node-B.
