Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polishing liquid composition which improves the polishing speed, decreases the surface defects such as scratches or pits, and improves the surface smoothness such as surface roughness (Ra) and waviness (Wa); a polishing method using the composition; and a magnetic disk substrate improved in surface smoothness such as surface roughness (Ra) and waviness (Wa) and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: There are provided a polishing liquid composition [1] containing silica particles, water, and an Fe salt and/or an Al salt of a polyaminocarboxylic acid; a polishing liquid composition [2] containing an inorganic acid and/or an organic acid in addition to all the ingredients contained in composition [1]; a polishing method using composition [1] or [2]; a method for producing a magnetic disk substrate having a polishing step using composition [1] or [2]; and a magnetic disk substrate produced by using composition [1] or [2].

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detergent composition which is effective in cleaning a pad, such as a polishing pad dirtied by solid dirt in a polishing liquid, by using an anionic surfactant. SOLUTION: Preferably, the anionic surfactant is a compound containing at least five of at least one kind of groups selected from among -COOR and -SO3R (wherein R is H or an inorganic or organic group) groups and having a solubility (at 25 deg.C) of 0.05 g or higher in 100 g water and a mol.wt. of 500-300,000. The surfactant may be used as it is or as an aqueous solution preferably with a concentration of 0.01-95 wt.%. When a chelating agent is compounded, the detergency against solid dirt is improved. Preferably, the pH of the composition is 2-13. Still preferably, a nonionic surfactant having a 1-20C linear or cyclic saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group and a polyoxyalkylene alkyl oxide group is compounded.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-aqueous secondary battery with its superior discharge capacity by burning a thermosetting resin and providing a glass-shaped carbon material with a specified atom number ratio and specific surface area of hydrogen and carbon as a negative electrode material of a non-aqueous battery. SOLUTION: A glass-shaped carbon material in which thermosetting resin is burned is used for a negative electrode material for non-aqueous battery. In this carbon material, the atom number ratio between hydrogen and carbon (H/C) is 0.15 to 0.5, and the specific surface with the BET method is 100 to 500m /g. Furthermore, in the case of the glass-shaped carbon material it is preferable that the intra-planar interval doo2 is 3.37Å or more and the crystal size Lc is 50Å or less. In addition, it is preferable that the glass-shaped carbon material is 2.0g/cm in the degree of vacuum and 0.1 to 50μm in particle size. The thermosetting resin preferably uses a copolycondensation body of phenol, furfurly alcohol, and formaldehyde.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics, such as frequency characteristics, and preservable stability and with which the recording of a higher density is possible. SOLUTION: This medium has a base 2 and a magnetic layer 3 on this base 2 and this magnetic layer 2 contains ferromagnetic metallic powder and a binder. The surface roughness of the magnetic layer 3 is =0.85 and the residual magnetic flux density thereof is >=2600 gauss. The attenuation factor ΔBs (the change rate of the saturation magnetic flux density Bs' after resting for 30 days under the environment of 60 deg.C and 90% relative humidity to the saturation magnetic flux density Bs of the magnetic layer before the resting and is the value expressed by ΔBs=(1-Bs'/Bs)×100) of the raturation magnetic flux density is =70wt.%.

A coating film for a magnetic recording medium excellent in squareness ratio and SFD is obtained by using the magnetic metal powder.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain metallic magnetic powder of high coercive force by providing the specified layer by bivalent transition metal compound, etc., on the surface of the hydroxide iron particles of needle crystals so as to cover it, and then, heating the hydroxide iron particles in an inert gas air current so as to form a ferrite free of hydration ports, and heating this ferrite so as to reduce it. CONSTITUTION:This relates to the manufacture of metallic magnetic powder, which covers the surface of the hydroxide iron particle of a needle crystal with a mixture layer which contains bivalent transition metal compounds and carbon compounds having adsorbing ability to the hydroxide iron particles of needle crystals, and then, making the needle crystal particle into a ferrite free of dehydration holes, and next, heating and reducing this ferrite, and a film for a magnetic record medium, which contains this metallic magnetic powder. The, metallic magnetic powder of high coercive force and narrow in coercive force distribution can be obtained, and also a film for magnetic record medium excellent in oxidation resistance can be manufactured using this metallic magnetic powder.
