The substrate has satisfactory surface smoothness, is free from microdefects and also has moderate surface roughness. It ensures high strength, high hardness and satisfactory shock resistance and is nonmagnetic and light in weight.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To realize reduction of error rate by removing microparticles from the surface of a composite material composed of glassy carbon and a material containing microparticles of predetermined size thereby roughening the surface and preventing adhesion of head to a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:Microparticles are removed from the surface of a composite material composed of glassy carbon and a material containing microparticles having average grain size of 0.1mum or below thus producing a substrate for magnetic recording medium. The composite material is treated with solution for dissolving the microparticles thus removing the microparticles from the surface and roughening the surface of the substrate. The microparticles are one or more kinds of metal oxide selected from aluminum oxide, silicon oxide, titanium oxide, and the like and the ratio of the microparticles is preferably in the range of 0.1-10vol.%. Microparticles are removed by etching through the use of acid solution. This method prevents adhesion of head to a recording medium and lowers error rate.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the adhesion of dust by charging effectively by forming a transparent organic protective layer in specific thickness onto a transparent conductive layer formed on the laser-beam incidence plane side of a plastic substrate. CONSTITUTION:A transparent organic protective layer in thickness of 25mum or less is shaped onto a transparent conductive layer formed on the laser-beam incidence plane side of a plastic substrate. The transparent organic protective layer having hardness of pencil hardness H or more is favorable, and the transparent organic protective layer using an inorganic metal such as tin oxide, fluoride oxidized zinc oxide as a component is preferable. The conductivity of the transparent conductive layer as a foundation is displayed by previously forming the organic protective layer in thickness of 25mum or less, and dust, etc., are difficult to adhere. One kind or more can be used properly from ethylene glycol diacrylate, neopentyl glycol diacrylate, polyol acrylate, etc., as the component of the organic protective layer.

CONSTITUTION:A light transmittnat elastic productive film is provided to an incident surface side to an optical recording medium of a laser beam, the optical recording medium being capable of writing and/or reading information by a laser beam, and Vickers hardness of the elastic protective film if 20gf/mum or under. As materials composing the elastic protective film of 20gf/mum or under in Vickes hardness, materials having acrylic materials principally is preferable since its application and curing method are simple. Since Vickers hardness of the elastic protective film is 20gf/mum of under, impairing the optical recording medium is much less, and extremely high quality optical recording medium can be obtained in good productivity.
