SOLUTION: The method for producing the nonwoven fabric 43 includes: holding a web 40 containing heat-fusible fibers between a pair of embossing rolls 21 and 22; forming an embossed sheet 42 in which embossed parts 41 are formed; and then heating the embossed sheet 42. The peripheral surfaces of the embossing rolls 21 and 22 are uneven shapes, and protruding parts of the other embossing roll 22 are formed corresponding to protruding parts of the one embossing roll 21. When holding the web 40, the rotation of both the embossing rolls 21 and 22 is controlled so that the protruding parts of the one embossing roll 21 always oppose to the protruding parts of the other embossing roll 22.     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extensible and contractible sheet showing good shape-retainability of a rugged structure.
    SOLUTION: The extensible and contractible sheet 10 is made by bonding many elastic members 13, the elastic members 13 not crossing each other but extending in one direction, to the whole length of the extensible and contractible sheets 11 and 12 without being substantially stretched. The extensible and contractible sheet 10 has the first area 101 which contains the elastic members 13 with a relatively smaller distance between the elastic members 13, and the second area 102 which contains the elastic members 13 with a relatively larger distance between the elastic members 13 or which does not contain the elastic members 13. The surface of the extensible and contractible sheet 10 is substantially flat in the first area 101.
