Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily polymerize a substituted epoxide and efficiently produce a polyether having a high degree of polymerization by polymerizing a monomer component containing a specific epoxide in the presence of a specific rare earth metal compound and an organometallic compound. SOLUTION: A monomer component containing at least one kind of epoxide represented by formula II [R1 is H, a (substituted)1-50C hydrocarbon group or the like; R2 is a substituent group capable of binding to the epoxy ring or same as R1], formula III (R4 is H, a substituent group capable of binding to the epoxy ring or the like), formula IV or formula V in the presence of a rare earth metal compound represented by formula I (M is Sc, Y or a rare earth element selected from lanthanoids; L1 to L3 are each oxygen or a nitrogen- binding ligand and an organometallic compound (e.g. an organoaluminum compound such as trimethylaluminum).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently obtaining a polyether having a high degree of polymerization by easily polymerizing a substituted epoxide except propylene oxide and an epihalohydrin. SOLUTION: This method for producing a polyether is to conduct ring-opening polymerization of a substituted epoxide (except propylene oxide and an epihalohydrin) in the presence of (a) a metal complex containing both at least one kind selected from the first half group of transition metals and its ligand and (b) an organometallic compound capable of reducing the first half group of transition metals.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a graft polymer having a high efficiency of linking of a trunk polymer to a branch polymer and being capable of the selection of structures having various functional groups as the structure of the trunk polymer and the structure of the branch polymer by radically polymerizing a vinyl monomer in the presence of a water-soluble polymer essentially consisting of repeating units of an optionally substituted styrene structure. SOLUTION: The trunk polymer used is a water-soluble polymer formed by polymerizing an optionally substituted styrene or a water-soluble polymer formed by copolymerizing styrene or the like with other vinyl monomers (e.g. alkyl maleate). From the viewpoint of obtaining a highly pure graft polymer, it is desirable that the trunk polymer has a weight-average molecular weight of 1,000-3,000,000. The ratio of the branch polymer to the trunk polymer is desirably 5/95 to 95/5 by weight. The trunk polymer, a vinyl monomer, an initiator (e.g. benzoyl peroxide), etc., are fed into a reactor and polymerized at 40-120 deg.C.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polysiloxane represented by a specific formula and useful as a cosmetic good in compatibility at the time of production, capable of lightly extending at the time of coating without causing the stickiness after the coating, good in touch and excellent in makeup lasting. SOLUTION: This polysiloxane is represented by the formula [R1 is a 32-70C alkyl; R2 is a 1-30C hydrocarbon; (a) denotes a number of >=1 average value]. Further, the above polysiloxane is obtained by polymerizing (A) a 32-70C monohydric alcohol with (B) one or more kinds of cyclic polysiloxanes, chain polysiloxanes or silanes (with the proviso that the chain polysiloxanes and silanes have >=2 leaving groups) in the presence of (C) a base (e.g. a hydroxide of an alkali metal) or (D) an acidic catalyst (e.g. an ion exchange resin) in a hydrocarbon solvent such as heptane at a reactional temperature within the range of 70-300 deg.C for about 1-200 h reactional time.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound having both high water- and oil- repellency, and compatibility with other high molecular materials, or solubility to an organic solvent, and useful as a water- and oil-repellant by including different kinds of specific structural units. SOLUTION: This compound comprises (A) a structural unit of formula I [R1 is H, a 1-22C alkyl or the like; R2 is H or a 1-6C alkyl; (a) is 2 or 3] and (B) a structural unit of formula II (R3 to R5 are each H, a 1-6C alkyl or the like; R6 is a fluorinated alkyl or the like). The weight average molecular weights of the segments containing the components A and B are 500-10,000 and 5,000-500,000, respectively, and the weight ratio of the both segments is preferably (25/75)-(75/25). The compound is exemplified by a compound of formula III obtained by radically polymerizing dimethylaminopropylacrylamide with a compound of the formula CH2=CH(CH3)COOC2H4C8F17, and reacting the polymerized product with a polymer synthesized from 2-ethyloxazoline or the like.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a bath agent which is excellent in the effect of preventing harshness of the skin after bathing and rendering the skin smooth, and can impart comfort in use by incorporating a hydrophilic polyether polymer having specified structural units. SOLUTION: This bath agent compsn. contains a hydrophilic polyether polymer, with a wt. average mol.wt. of 500 to 500,000, comprising structural units represented by formula I (wherein R and R represent each a 1-20C alkyl group which may contain a hydroxyl group; and Y represents a 1-20C divalent satd. hydrocarbon group which may contain a hydroxyl group), the hydrophilic polyether polymer being contained in an amt. of 0.1 to 80 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. bath agent compsn. In use, the bath agent compsn. is introduced into bathwater at the time of bathing so that the concentration of the hydrophilic polyether polymer in the bathwater is 0.5 to 100,000 ppm. Polymers represented by formula II (wherein (n) is 50 to 200) and copolymers comprising structural units represented by formula III (wherein (p) is 2; (q) is 1; and (r) is 1) and structural units represented by formulae IV, V, and VI (wherein (p) is 2; (q) is 1; and (s) is 1) may be exemplified as some examples of pref. polymers.

The hairdressing contains the organopolysiloxane and may further contain an ionic polymer and water or a mixture of water and 1 wt.% 1-6C lower alcohol.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antistatic agent compsn. which exhibits a good compatibility with various resins without degrading their physical properties and is excellent in antiblocking properties by using a hydrophilic polyether-base polymer having specific structural units. SOLUTION: This compsn. contains a hydrophilic polyether-base polymer having structural units represented by the formula (wherein R and R are each an optionally hydroxylated 1-20C alkyl group; and Y is an optionally hydroxylated 1-10C alkylene group). Any hydrophilic polyether-base polymer can be used when it has strurctural units represented by the formula; i.e., the polymer may be a homopolymer comprising the above-mentioned structural units or a copolymer comprising the structural units and one or more kinds of other structural units. The wt.-average mol.wt. of the polymer is pref. 500-1,000.000.
