    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve surface smoothness, dispersibility of a magnetic powder and durability while holding mechanical properties by using a polyurethane resin having one or more ammonium salts of COOH groups as a binder. SOLUTION: The number average mol.wt. of the polyurethane resin used is 5000 to 50000, and the compounding ratio of the polyurethane resin to a ferromagnetic fine powder is preferably by weight, 10 to 100 of the resin to 100 of the ferromagnetic fine powder. It is preferable that the ferromagnetic fine powder has /g specific surface area. As for the polyurethane resin, any polyurethane resin having isocyanate groups on both molecular ends, having hydroxyl groups on both molecular ends, or having one isocyanate group on one molecular end and a hydroxyl group on the other end can be used as far as the resin has the polar groups above described in the molecular chain. The polyurethane resin may contain one or more other polar groups as polar groups except for ammonium salt of COOH groups in the molecular chain.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To form a fine polymer particle having a uniform particle size suitable for a filler for liquid chromatography by adding a specific noinionic org. compound to an ethylenic unsaturated monomer and absorbing the resulting mixture by a seed polymer particle. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. of an oil-soluble ethylenic unsaturated monomer (A), for example, styrene or p-methylstyrene is mixed with 0.5-300pts.wt. of a nonionic org. compound (B) liquid at ambient temp., having water solubility of 0.01wt.% or more at 25 deg.C and compatible with the monomer (A). The obtained mixture is absorbed by a seed polymer particle (C) dispersed in an aqueous dispersing medium to polymerize the monomer (A) in the presence of an oil-soluble polymerization initiator. By this method, a filler for liquid chromatography composed of a non-porous or porous polymer particle having a uniform particle size within a range of 1-30mum and excellent in sphericity is obtained. Since the filler is composed of a polymer particle and has narrow particle size distribution even when classifying treatment is not applied especially, said filler can be suitably used in gel permeation chromatography.
