    Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify the scanning circuit of a gas discharge type indicator and prevent erroneous scanning of the indicator by employing an electrode connecting construction in which no more than two adjacent scanning voltages are mutually applied to respective cathode phases of the indicator. CONSTITUTION:Even if an electric current is branched to an igniter discharging electrode from a cathode Kk of the same phase as the ignitor electrode to cause the adjacent cathode K2 to become feasible to discharge at the cathode scanning time T13 when the original igniter discharge is formed at the position of the cathode K13 belonging to the cathode phase of a cathode phase group Kphi1, the scanning voltage is applied to the cathode K14 belonging to the cathode phase group Kphi3 to cause no voltage to be applied to the cathode K2 at the next cathode scanning time T14. Accordingly, the igniter discharge is always sequentially scanned from the cathode K13 to the original cathode K14. That is, when eight phases are, for example, scanned, the voltage is applied to the respective cathode phase in the order as shown at the scanning time of the cathode scanning time T1 to T24.

CONSTITUTION:The anode switch 7-1 and the cathode switch 8 are turned on at the selection time TK' of the reset cathode 3' to cause sure reset discharge. Next, at the charging time TCHG2, all the cathodes 8-1 and 8-2 are kept OFF, and the start auxiliary switch 12 is connected to ground, to charge up the stray capacity 10-1 and the start auxiliary capacity 11-1 from the power supply Es. When the pull-up time Tp2 is reached, the anode switch 7-1 is turned off and the anode potential VA increases from VS to VP with the turning on of the start auxiliary switch 12. when the switch 7-1 is turned on at the cathode selection time Tk2, the ignition current flows and simultaneously, the display discharge current flows constantly during Tk2 from the power supply Es through the resistor 9-1 to perform display discharge.
