    Abstract: An amplifier for combining color difference signals with luminance signals and driving a color image reproducing device includes first and second transistors of opposite conductivity type. Color difference signals are capacitively coupled to the base of the first transistor. The emitter of the first transistor is direct current coupled to the emitter of the second transistor. Luminance signals are coupled to the base of the second transistor. Color signals developed at the collector of the first transistor are coupled to the image reproducing device. The base-emitter junction of the first transistor is also direct current coupled in feedback relation across the collector-base junction of a third transistor of like conductivity type. The emitter of the third transistor is coupled to a gating circuit which couples a reference voltage to the emitter of the third transistor to cause the third transistor to conduct during each horizontal retrace interval. As a result, the emitter of the first transistor is clamped substantially to the reference voltage to thereby determine the operating point of the first transistor. The gating circuit also selectively couples a signal to the emitter of the first transistor to render the image reproducer cut-off during the horizontal trace portion of the vertical retrace interval so that disconcerting horizontal scan lines are not visible during vertical retrace. The gating circuit is arranged so that the signal to cut off the image reproducing device during vertical retrace is disconnected from the emitter of the first transistor during the horizontal retrace intervals so as not to interfere with the clamping operation of the first and third transistors.

A control signal developed by the beam current limiter network, otherwise applied to the video signal path, is decoupled from the video signal path during the white level measuring intervals to prevent distortion of the white level control function.

    Abstract: In a digital video signal processing system including an image reproducing kinescope and a digital-to-analog converter (DAC), excessive kinescope beam current are automatically limited in response to a control signal which varies a reference voltage for the DAC such that the peak-to-peak amplitude of analog video signals from the DAC is reduced. A version of the control signal is applied to the output of the DAC with a magnitude and polarity for substantially negating unwanted shifts of the video signal black level during the beam current limiting mode.

    Abstract: A speed-up memory doubles the field rate of a video input signal by repeating each field to reduce flicker when the double field rate signal is displayed. Read/write clocks for controlling the memory are locked to the color subcarrier of the video input signal thereby tending to produce visual artifacts in the displayed image due to clock skew relative to sync when non-standard video signals are processed. The skew errors are corrected by circuitry which measures the skew of the read and write clocks and delays the video signal as a function of a difference between the clock skew measurements.

    Abstract: The present invention provides for the generation of digitally dithered digital signals which can have an apparent quantizing resolution unaffected by truncation of the least significant bit. The truncated digital signal is dithered in an ordered fashion by adding thereto a bit developed in response to one condition of the truncated bit and is not dithered in response to another condition thereof. The original digital signal can be reconstructed by combining successive samples of the truncated digital signals. One feature of the present invention provides a truncation of digital signals.

    Abstract: A switched mode power supply for a remote controlled television receiver incorporates a degaussing circuit having a relay that is required to be energized in order to permit operation of the degaussing circuit. Power to energize the relay is derived from a power supply switch transistor protection circuit which removes residual stored energy from the power transformer primary winding. This stored energy is used to charge a capacitor during the time the switch transistor is nonconductive. The capacitor is discharged to provide current to energize the deguassing circuit relay in order to permit ac mains current to flow through the degaussing coil.
