CONSTITUTION:The phototransistor 39 of a photodetector part 70 consisting of a combination of a laser 78 and a light-receiving element 39 is connected to an area between a power supply voltage Vcc and a ground through a resistor R1. In addition, a common connection point between the resistor R1 and the phototransistor is connected to the non-inverting input terminal of an operational amplifier 64. Further, the inverting input terminal of the operational amplifier 64 is connected to an output terminal through a resistor R2, and at the same time, is also grounded through a resistor R3. The output terminal of the operational amplifier 64 is connected to the inverting input terminal of a comparator 65.

This element 21 receives the return light by the light reception part 4 in an area other than the projection part of the light emission part 1, so the projection part of the light emission part 1 becomes an ineffective area regarding the light reception. The return light to the light reception part 4, however, is made astigmatic, so the spot of the return light has the center of its intensity deviating from the center of the ineffective area of the light emission part 1.

Thus, strength between a prism 1 and a semiconductor base 2 can be improved.

Oscillating laser light LA1 emitted from each effective light point at which the near-sightedness field image 2 is formed is passed through a passage in which the effective light passage lengths are put in order and returned to the near-sightedness field image of semiconductor laser 1 while it is passed through the passage in which the respective effective light passage lengths are put in order each other and struck on the reflecting mirror 12C. Therefore, laser light which is passed on each effective light point performs oscillation operation in a prescribed phase corresponding to mutually arranged effective light passage lengths and the oscillating laser light LA1 whose phases are put in order in a lateral mode can be produced.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To perform high-accuracy positioning by forming the tip part of an optical fiber so that it deforms axially and plastically, causing the tip to deform plastically by applying an external force in the axial direction of the sleeve, and making adjustments while measuring the quantity of light. CONSTITUTION:The tip part of the optical fiber 11 is inserted into the plastically deformable sleeve 12 fixed to the cap 9 of a semiconductor laser 1 and the force is applied to the plastically deformable sleeve 12, which deforms plastically to position the tip surface of the optical fiber 11 in an X, a Y, and a Z direction as to a laser diode pellet 4. Namely, the quantity of a laser beam LB which is emitted by the laser diode pellet 4, passed through the optical fiber 11, and projected from its projection end surface is measured by a photodetector 16 and the position is adjusted in the X, Y, and Z directions so that the measured value is maximum. Consequently, the high-accuracy positioning is so carried out to obtain the highest optical coupling efficiency.

CONSTITUTION:The front end part of an optical fiber 11 is inserted to a plastically deformable sleeve 12 fixed to a cap 9 of a semiconductor laser 1, and a force is applied to the sleeve 12 to plastically deform the sleeve 12, thereby positioning the front end face of the optical fiber 11 to a laser diode pellet 4 in X, Y, and Z directions. The quantity of light of a laser beam LB which is emitted from the pellet 4 and passes in the optical fiber 11 is measured by a photodetector 16 and is adjusted to position the front end face of the optical fiber 11. After positioning, the fiber holding sleeve 12, the optical fiber 11, and the cap 9 are permanently fixed with an adhesive 20.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent a soldered electrode from being exfoliated from a semiconductor substrate by a method wherein titanium is formed on the surface of the semiconductor substrate, silver is then formed and a soldered layer is formed on a metal layer composed of the silver so that good ohmic contact can be maintained. CONSTITUTION:A Ti layer 2 is formed by evaporation on the surface of a semiconductor substrate 1; an Ag layer 3 is then formed by evaporation. This assembly is sintered at 400 deg.C for 30 min so that ohmic contact can be maintained between the silicon semiconductor substrate 1 and the Ti layer 2. Then, an Sn layer 4 is formed by evaporation; the layers 2-4 are then patterned. After that, a laser diode chip 5 is soldered to the semiconductor substrate 1 through the Sn layer 4 by means of a P-side electrode 6 composed of Ti, Ni and Au. Through this constitution, it is possible to prevent a soldered electrode from being exfoliated from the semiconductor substrate while good ohmic contact is maintained.

CONSTITUTION:A groove 4 having a 'V'-shaped cross section is formed in the intermediate part of the surface of a transparent crystal substrate 1, and one side of the groove 4 in the crystal substrate 1 is made into a prism 7 having one or a plurality of photo detectors 9-11 formed on the surface or the reverse side thereof. Also, the surface 15 of the other side of the groove 4 is made lower than the height of the surface 2 of the one side and is made into a light emitting element mount section 14, on which a light emitting element 17 for emitting a light toward the prism 7 is mounted. For instance, in the intermediate part of the surface 2 of a wafershaped crystal substrate 1 composed of a crystal of GaP sliced in a predetermined crystal plane, a groove 4 having a 'V'-shaped cross section is formed by an anisotropical etching, photo diodes 9-11 are formed on the reverse side 3 of the prism 7 on the left of the groove 4, and on the right part, a light emitting element mount section 14 is formed by means of RIE or the like, on which a laser diode 17 is mounted.
