Abstract: In a data processing apparatus used for a multi-channel digital television broadcasting system, coded streams are recorded on a recording medium (21) with high efficiency, and can be random-accessed at high speed. The data processing apparatus includes segmenting means (11) for segmenting the entered coded stream with respect to a predetermined time unit, first forming means (23) for forming a time unit map indicative of an address of data every time unit of the coded stream which is segmented by the segmenting means (11) and second forming means (16) for forming an entry point map indicative of an entry point of said coded stream.

Abstract: An information recording and/or reproducing method for supervising the information, such as an input source, in a stream recorded on a recording medium. If, in a reproduction processing of reproducing an AV stream from the recording medium, the source_security_info, which is the copy control information recorded on the recording medium, is read out, the AV stream is read out, and analog video, for example, is output (step 203), it is verified, from the information contained in the source_security_info, whether or not the input source is DTCP-concordant. If the input source is DTCP-concordant, reproduction restricting processing for a video output, conforming to the DTCP rule, is executed to issue the video output.

Abstract: In a recording medium storing MPEG stream, flag information (encode_condition) indicating that the stream is recorded in a format enabling easily the first stream (MPEG transport stream) to be converted into the second stream (MPEG program stream) is provided. Such a flag information is included in Tip packet which is a control packet, in the medium. Thus it can easily determine whether the data is recorded in this format without analysis of data stored in the recording medium.

Abstract: For encoding externally input AV signal to MPEG-TS that enables quickly conversion from MPEG-TS to MPEG-PS, data unit (Multiplexing Unit) is defined which includes a plurality of packet and has data size corresponding to data amount of one pack in MPEG-PS, and MPEG-TS is encoded for each defined data unit. Abstract: The present invention allows security information to be managed properly. A thumbnail encoder 19 extracts a thumbnail picture from video information input from a terminal 12 and encodes the thumbnail picture. If content management information of the video information input from the terminal 12, which is a source of the thumbnail picture, indicates 'copy once' protection, a controller 21 controls an encryption unit 22 to encrypt the thumbnail picture information before the thumbnail picture information is recorded on a recording medium 26. At that time, information indicating that the encrypted thumbnail picture has been recorded is also stored onto the recording medium 26 as a file separated from a file for storing the thumbnail picture. The present invention can thus be applied to a recording or reproduction apparatus to make the apparatus capable of properly managing security information of an AV signal.
