    Abstract: Procedimiento de fusión directa para la producción de metales a partir de óxidos metálicos (comprendiendo óxidos metálicos parcialmente reducidos) que comprende las etapas siguientes: (a) formar un baño fundido que comprende una capa de metal y una capa de escoria sobre la capa de metal en un convertidor metalúrgico; (b) inyectar un material metalífero de carga en la capa de metal mediante una o varias lanzas/toberas y fundir el material metalífero en metal principalmente por lo menos en la capa de metal; (c) inyectar un material carbonoso sólido en la capa de metal mediante una o varias lanzas/toberas; (d) provocar un movimiento ascendente de salpicaduras, pequeñas gotas y chorros de metal fundido desde la capa de metal del baño fundido que: (i) favorece una intensa mezcla del metal en la capa de escoria del baño fundido; y (ii) se extiende en un espacio por encima de una superficie nominal inactiva del baño fundido para formar una zona de transición; e (e) inyectar un gas que contiene oxígeno en el convertidor mediante una o varias lanzas/toberas para realizar una post-combustión de los gases de la reacción liberados por el baño fundido.

    Abstract: A steelmaking process is disclosed. The process includes producing molten steel and molten steelmaking slag in a steelmaking process, the steelmaking slag including iron units and flux units, and thereafter producing molten ir on in a molten bath based direct smelting process using a substantial portion o f the steelmaking slag as part of the feed material requirements for the direc t smelting process. A direct smelting process is also disclosed. The process includes pre-treating ferrous material including steelmaking slag and thereafter direct smelting molten iron using the pretreated ferrous material as part of the feed material for the process.

    Abstract: A process for direct smelting a metalliferous feed material is disclosed. The process includes the steps of partially reducing metalliferous feed material and substantially devolatilising coal in a pre-reduction vessel and producing a partially reduced metalliferous feed material and char. The process also includes direct smelting the partially reduced metalliferous feed material to molten metal in a direct smelting vessel using the char as a source of energy and as a reductant and post-combusting reaction gas produced in the direct smelting process with pre-heated air or oxygen-enriched air to a post-combustion level of greater than 70% to generate heat required for the direct smelting reactions and to maintain the metal in a molten state.

    Abstract: Se describe un proceso de fusion directa en base a un bano fundido para producir metal ferroso a partir de un material de alimentacion ferroso. El proceso esta caracterizado por inyectar aire precalentado hacia abajo en un recipiente metalurgico en un angulo de 20 a 90°C con relacion a un eje horizontal y en una temperatura de 800-1400°C y en una velocidad de 200-600 m/s por medio por lo menos una lanza. Esta etapa empuja al material fundido en la region de un extremo inferior de la lanza lejos de la lanza y forma un espacio "libre" alrededor del extremo inferior de la lanza que tiene una concentracion de material fundida que es inferior que la concentracion de material fundido en el bano elevado. El proceso se caracteriza ademas en que la lanza se ubica de tal forma que: (i) la lanza se extiende dentro del recipiente una distancia que es por lo menos el diametro externo del extremo inferior de la lanza; y (ii) el extremo inferior de la lanza es por lo menos 3 veces el diametro externo del extremo inferior de la lanza arriba de una superficie quiescente del bano fundido.

    Abstract: A molten bath-based direct smelting process for producing ferrous metal from a ferrous feed material is disclosed. The process is characterised by injecting pro-heated air downwardly into metallurgical vessel at an angle of 20 to 90° C. relative to a horizontal axis and at a temperature of 800-1400 ° C. and at a velocity of 200-600 m/s via at least one lance ( 27 ) . This step forces molten material in the region of a lower end of the lance away from the lance and forming a "free"space around the lower end of the lance that has a concentration of molten material that is lower than the molten material concentration in the raised bath. The process is further characterised in that the lance is located so that: (i) the lance extends into the vessel a distance that is at least the outer diameter of he lover end of the lance; and (ii) the lower end of the lance is at least 3 times the outer diameter of the lower end of the lance above a quiescent surface of the molt bath.
