    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain inexpensively and easily a practical, highly pure ion exchanger by performing the crosslinking and sulfonation reaction of a fibrous molding having an aromatic ring at a low temperature or for a short time.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To prolong the filtration life of a precoat and to improve the quality of treated water by using a powdery ion-exchange resin and an ion-exchange fiber as the precoat material and continuously or stepwise decreasing the ratio of both materials in the circulating direction of water to be treated in the precoat layer. CONSTITUTION:A powdery ion-exchange resin and an ion-exchange fiber are used as the precoat material, and the ratio of the fiber to resin is continuously or stepwise decreased in the circulating direction of water to be treated in the precoat layer. As a result, amorphous iron is adsorbed by the ion-exchange fiber-richer layer without causing significant contraction. A floc of the ion- exchange fiber is then formed in the ion-exchange resin-richer layer with the powdery ion-exchange resin as the nucleus to impart appropriate porosity and compressive strength. Consequently, the service life of the precoat material is drastically prolonged, and the quality of treated water is improved by the high ion exchangeability of the fiber having a large surface area.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To extend the filtering life of a precoating layer and to enhance the quality of treated water by using a powder ion exchange resin and an ion exchange filter as a precoating material and setting the water content of the ion exchange fiber to a specific numerical value. CONSTITUTION:A powder ion exchange resin pref. has a particle size of about 1 - 250 mum. It is important that the water content of an ion exchange fiber is within a range of 1.0 - 5.0 and there is no special limit in the shape of said fiber but it pref. consists of an ion exchange polymer and a reinforcing polymer and the fiber length thereof is pref. about 0.1 - 1mm. Therefore, when the powder ion exchange resin and the ion exchange fiber are stirred and mixed in water, the ion exchange fiber becomes the nucleus of the powder ion exchange resin to form floc and a proper void ratio and compression strength are imparted to drastically extend the life of a precoating material and, by the excellent ion exchange capacity of the fiber having a large surface area, the quality of treated water can be enhanced in addition.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To hold the strength of a precoat material in a filter and to effectively prevent the compaction of a precoat layer in the filter by using ion exchange fiber constituted of powder ion exchange resin, ion exchange polymers and reinforcing polymers. CONSTITUTION:At the time of purifying water used in a nuclear power station or the like by a precoat filter, as a precoat material, ion exchange fiber constituted of powder ion exchange resin, ion exchange polymers such as crosslinked and insolubilized polystyrene-series compounds and reinforcing polymers such as poly-alpha-olefine is used. By this method, the ion exchange resin contg. the reinforcing polymers becomes the nucleus of the powder ion exchange resin to form a floc body and to provide the precoat material with suitable void ratio and compressive strength. Thus, the service life of the precoat material is remarkably prolonged and the quality of treated water is furthermore improved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title flocked product excellent in form processability, having high ion exchange ability, thus suitable for toxic substance-preventive filters, etc., by introducing core yarn into a space between a pair of specific electrodes, and during the process, implanting the adhesive layer on the core yarn with specific pulp. CONSTITUTION:Core yarn 50-50000 in total denier peripherally coated with an adhesive is introduced into a space between (A) at least a pair of electrodes with positive voltage applied on one of them and negative voltage on the other and either of the voltages put to pole change to form an electrostatic field so that attractive and repulsive forces are alternately act between both the electrodes, (B) a pair of electrodes with positive voltage applied on one of them and negative voltage on the other to form an electrostatic field so that an attractive force acts, or (C) at least a pair of electrodes with either positive or negative voltage applied on both the electrodes to form an electric field so that a repulsive force acts; during the process, the adhesive layer on the core yarn is implanted with pulp prepared by cutting a fibrous ion exchange form 0.1-10meq/g in the amount of ion exchange group to a length of 0.1-3mm.
