Abstract: This invention relates to a method for treating water by using a precoated filter. Since the method of the present invention utilizes ion-exchange fibers having an ion-exchange polymer and a reinforcing polymer as the precoating material together with a cation-exchange resin powder and an anion-exchange resin powder, the method made it possible to prominently prolong the lifetime of the precoating material and to improve the quality of the treated water. The method for treating water of the present invention is s~ited for the treatment of water to be used in, or waste eater from atomic power plants, steam power plants, pharmaceutical companies and the like.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily detecting whether there is any disconnection or defect of a hollow fiber membrane even in the operation in a method for detecting the defect of the hollow fiber membrane. SOLUTION: In the method for detecting the defect of the external pressure type hollow fiber membrane formed so that the inside of a case is separated from the outside b sealing many numbers of the hollow fiber membrane inserted in the case at the case opening part in a state that the terminal of each hollow fiber membrane is opened, the defect is detected by measuring the turbidity of the permeated water when a water having a turbidity higher than the turbidity of the permeated water of the hollow fiber membrane is passed from the outside of the hollow fiber membrane to the inside after a gas and/or a liquid are passed from the inside of the hollow fiber membrane at a pressure of

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a treatment soln. for a separation membrane harmless to a human body, not generating a problem of drainage and capable of preserv ing a separation membrane module over a long period of time by using a polylysine soln. as the treatment soln. CONSTITUTION:Polylysine is a polymer of lysine and obtained, for example, by separating polylysine after the culture of polylysine producing bacteria. Further, polylysine may contain other natural substance or synthetic chemical substance not damaging the separation effect of a membrane. An antibacterial agent such as polyalginin may be together used. This polylysine can suppress the propagation of a wide range of bacteria such as heat-resistant bacteria, lactic bacteria or yeast and can limit the growth of them to extremely low concn. Since it is difficult to strictly specify the concn. of polylysine of this preservation soln., the concn. of polylysine must be determined in consideration of an initial viable cell number or a preservation state and is 1-5000ppm, pref., 5-1000ppm, more pref., 10-500ppm.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To process a large amt. of water at a high flow rate under low pressure loss by forming a tower packed with ion exchange fiber to satisfy a specified relation of the tower length to the diameter. CONSTITUTION:A tower 3 packed with ion exchange fiber 4 satisfies the relation of 0.04 , and length of the ion exchange fiber 4 is 0.2-2.5mm. The ion exchange fiber 4 has a composite structure of ion exchange polymer (e.g. polystyrene) and reinforcing polymer (e.g. polyethylene). The ion exchange fiber 4 is a mixture floor consisting of strong acid cation exchange fiber and strong base anion exchange fiber.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the fibrous adsorbent which has a large surface area, has an excellent adsorption performance, allows the selective adsorption of materials to be adsorbed, and can be easily and inexpensively produced by forming extremely fine fibers of polyester having specified or lower single yarn fineness. CONSTITUTION:Three-component conjugate fibers consisting of a sea component of polystyrene, an island-sheath component of polyester, such as polyethylene terephthalate formed by copolymn. with 5-sodium sulfoisphthalic acid, etc., and an island-core component of polyesthylene are crimped by a crimper. The sea component is then removed with an org. chlorine compd., such as trichloroethylene, by which the crimped tow of the extremely fine fibers having
