    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve ink repellency and to widen the latitude of dampening water by incorporating fine silica particles made hydrophilic by surface treatment into a hydrophilic swellable layer. SOLUTION: The planographic printing plate has at least a hydrophilic swellable layer on the substrate and the hydrophilic swellable layer contains fine silica particles made hydrophilic by surface treatment. The average primary particle diameter of the fine silica particles is 0.005-5 p m and the amt. is 5-60 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. solid components in the hydrophilic swellable layer. The fine silica particles made hydrophilic by surface treatment are dispersed in water and form a colloidal state. The fine silica particles have hydroxyl groups on the surfaces and are stabilized by a very small amt. of cations. Since the hydroxyl groups are negatively charged and the cations are added, electric double layers are formed in the shells of the particles and repulsion produced between particles prevents the collision and bonding of the particles and keeps satisfactory water dispersibility. An aq. dispersion of the particles is therefore stable and exhibits flowability even at a high concn.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a planographic printing plate having high ink repellency, ensuring a wide acceptable range of dampening water and having high durability in printing by containing titanium dioxide whose surface is made hydrophilic into a hydrophilic swellable layer. SOLUTION: The planographic printing plate has at least a hydrophilic swellable layer on the substrate and the hydrophilic swellable layer contains titanium dioxide whose surface is made hydrophilic. The titanium dioxide is titanium dioxide granulated by a sulfuric acid method, a chlorine method, etc., or titanium dioxide produced by pulverizing and classifying the granulated titanium dioxide. Specifically, the titanium dioxide is, e.g., anatase type or rutile type titanium dioxide. The pref. average primary particle diameter of the titanium dioxide is 0.005-5 μm, in particular 0.007-1 μm. The pref. amt. of the titanium dioxide is 5-60 pts.wt., in particular 10-40 pts.wt., based on 100 pts.wt. solid content of the hydrophilic swellable layer.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a plate that can be printed simply, by providing on a substrate at least a hydrophilic swelling layer of a specific dry thickness, a specific water absorption amount and a specific water swelling rate and an ink-accepting heat-sensitive layer containing at least a photothermal conversion substance and a compound easy to decompose with heat, and having a specific dry thickness in this order. SOLUTION: A hydrophilic swelling layer is layered on a substrate, in which a hydrophilic polymer is crosslinked or pseudo crosslinked upon necessities, so that the layer is insoluble to water or has a form retainability. A water absorption amount of the hydrophilic swelling layer is 1-50 g/m . A water swelling rate of a non-image part is 10-200%. Moreover, a dry thickness is preferably 0.5-4 μm. An ink-accepting heat-sensitive layer is required to efficiently absorb laser light and convert the light to heat, thereby being instantaneously decomposed partly or wholly by the heat. A thickness of the ink-accepting heat- sensitive layer is not larger than 3 μm.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a planographic printing plate controlling dampening water over an extended range, capable of making dampening water free from isopropanol and having improved ink repellency through simplified producing processes by forming a hydrophilic swellable layer by heating a copolymer contg. (meth)acrylate units and vinyl alcohol units at a specified temp. or above so that the layer swells only in the thickness direction of the resultant printing plate. SOLUTION: This planographic printing plate has at least a hydrophilic swellable layer on the substrate and the layer is formed by heating a copolymer contg. (meth)acrylate units and vinyl alcohol units at >=120 deg.C and swells with dampening water practically only in the thickness direction of the printing plate at the time of printing. The copolymer forms a water-insoluble layer by simple heating at >=120 deg.C and adheres tightly to a layer under the hydrophilic swellable layer. This layer swells with water practically in the thickness direction at the time of absorbing water and is made excellent in ink repellency and printing resistance.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a planographic printing plate efficiently repelling ink with a little dampening water and capable of printing without using isopropanol by imparting a phase separated structure contg. a phase based on a hydrophilic polymer and a phase based on a hydrophobic polymer composed chiefly of an acrylic polymer to a non-image area. SOLUTION: As for a hydrophilic ethylenically unsatd. compd., such hydrophilic vinyl monomers having vinyl groups can be used that are monomers having functional groups such as amino groups, carboxyl groups, sulfonate groups, amide groups, and hydroxyl groups, or monomers having polyalkylene oxide groups. The monomer having amino groups is dimethylaminomethylacrylate, etc. The monomer having carboxyl groups is an acrylic acid, etc. The monomer having sulfonate groups is a styrene sulfonate, etc., and the monomer having amide groups is an acrylamide, etc. These hydrophilic ethylene type unsatd. compds. are added to the compsn. which forms the hydrophilic swellable layer.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a print on which a film image is reproduced with greater fidelity and less dot gain, by a method wherein a lithographic-printing plate having at least a hydrophilic swell layer on a substrate is used and a printing method of halftone dot gradation expression by frequency modulation screening method is employed. SOLUTION: When printing is carried out using a lithographic-printing plate having at least a hydrophilic swell layer on a substrate, a halftone dot gradation expression by frequency modulation screening method or amplitude modulation screening method is employed. The hydrophilic sell layer is laminated on the substrate in such a way that one or more sorts of hydrophilic polymer are bridged or pseudo-bridged to make it insoluble in water. The thickness of the hydrophilic layer of 0.2-10g/m is suitable from the viewpoint of ink-repulsive and shape retainability. The suitable water-absorption degree of the hydrophilic swell layer is 10-2000%.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high ink repellency and widen a control width of a dampening water by a method wherein an oil ink is made to be in contact with a surface of a form plate in a state that a hydrophilic swelling layer which specifies a swelling ratio to water is wetted so as to attach the oil ink to printing areas, and the ink- attached face of the form plate is attached with pressure to a body to be printed. SOLUTION: In printing by using a planographic form plate equipped with a hydrophilic swelling layer having a swelling ratio to water of 10-1,000% arranged on a base plate, an oil ink is made to be in contact with the surface of the form plate in a state that the hydrophilic swelling layer is dampened, the oil ink is attached to printing areas, and the ink-attached face of the form plate is attached with pressure to a body to be printed so as to transfer the ink. The hydrophilic swelling layer is formed, in a layering manner on the base plate, by mixing a hydrophilic polymer and a hydrophobic polymer, cross-linked or pseudo-cross-linked as necessary, and insolubilizing to water. As for the cross-linking, it is preferable that the hydrophilic polymer and the hydrophobic polymer react in cross-linking by using a reactive functional group. As for the cross-linking reaction, either a cross-linking of covalent bonding or a cross-linking of ionic bonding may be applied.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a photosensitive planographic printing plate which has a photosensi tive hydrophilic swelling layer and is improved not only in printing resistance and solvent resistance and is greatly improved in ink repulsive property by subjecting this planograhic printing plate to a burning treatment at a specific temp. after expo sure. SOLUTION: The photosensitive planographic printing plate having the photosensitive hydrophilic swelling layer formed to have a water swelling property by laminating a hydrophilic polymer by application or transfer on a substrate and crosslinking or pseudo crosslinking this polymer to make polymer insoluble in water and to have a water swelling property is subjected to the heat (burning) treatment at 50 to 250 deg.C, more preferably 10 to 150 deg.C after the exposure. While the heat treatment time. is properly selectable according to plate and heat treatment temp, the heat treatment time usually about 1 second to 30 minutes, and is more preferably set at a range of 3 seconds to 10 minutes. The phase sepn. structures of the hydrophilic components and hydrophobic components in an ink repulsion layer are made to exit finely and uniformly by this heat treatment and the ink repulsive property is drastically improved. The execution of good printing is made possible and the allowance of damping water is widened even if the amt. of the damping water to be supplied is decreased.
