Abstract: A method of operating an engine includes igniting a combustible mixture in a combustion chamber of the engine, which produces exhaust gases. The exhaust gases are ejected into an exhaust manifold of the engine to create a primary exhaust stream. A portion of the exhaust gases is separated from the primary exhaust stream to create a secondary exhaust stream. Air and fuel are then mixed with the secondary exhaust stream to form a reformer feed mixture. The reformer feed mixture is reacted in a catalytic reformer to create a reformate exhaust stream, which is then mixed with an intake air stream to create a mixed air stream. The mixed air stream is the fed to the combustion chamber of the engine as the combustible mixture.

Abstract: A precursor cement slurry includes a cement powder, water, and an additive. The additive includes a cement bond enhancer and a non-aqueous fluid additive. The non-aqueous fluid additive is an internal phase and the cement bond enhancer stabilizes the non-aqueous fluid additive in the form of a Pickering emulsion within the precursor cement slurry. The cement bond enhancer is comprised of the reaction product of graphene oxide with an anchoring functionality. A method of forming the precursor cement slurry and a method of cementing an annular space within a wellbore are also provided.

Abstract: A mounting device for holding a sample mounted to a sample holder for use in an inverted microscope. The mounting device includes a platen; a mounting located on a sample side of the platen; a sample holder removably coupled to the mounting so the sample is along an optical axis of the inverted microscope; and a spacer shaped as a hollow prism or a hollow cylinder having a height and defining a through hole. The platen is disposed on the spacer with the sample side facing toward the spacer and the sample holder positioned within the through hole. The height of the spacer arranges the sample within a focal plane of the inverted microscope.

Abstract: A system for determining a direction for drilling a well is disclosed. The system has a device in a portion of a conveyance mechanism comprising a cylindrical housing with at least one sensor that tracks a position of the portion during a drilling operation, the device being configured to obtain a plurality of drilling parameters, and a control system coupled to the device and configured to perform at least one reservoir simulation, and prepare a plurality of required parameters while drilling. The device uses an optimization box to simulate increasing an angle between a drilling direction and a maximum horizontal stress by calculating a minimum mud pressure required to prevent borehole collapse. The control system generates an engineering curve representative of each angle simulated and a corresponding mud weight or pressure, and the device and the control system identify an optimal direction corresponding to a minimum drilling mud pressure parameter.

Abstract: Formation treatment compositions may include a surfactant and an aqueous acid solution or mixture. Methods of treating a formation may include introducing the formation treatment composition into a wellbore such that that the formation treatment composition contacts the formation.

Abstract: A composition for treating a formation includes a surfactant including an amphiphilic block copolymer having a first block and a second block and an acid. The amphiphilic block copolymer is a reaction product of a first monomer and a second monomer via a reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) in a two-step reaction using a chain transfer agent (CTA) and a radical initiator. The surfactant favors adsorption onto a surface of the formation such that a temporary barrier is formed, thereby attenuating a reaction rate between the acid and the formation.
