Abstract:
A STORAGE BATTERY POSITIVE ELECTRODE IS DISCLOSED HAVING A GRID STRUCTURE WITHOUT ANTIMONY AND A PASTE CONTAINING A SMALL CONTROLLED QUANTITY OF ANTIMONY THEREIN. METHODS OF PREPARATION OF THE ANTIMONY CONTAINING OXIDE BY THE USE OF CONVENTIONAL LEAD OXIDE PRODUCING EQUIPMENT IS ALSO DESCRIBED.
Abstract:
An adjustable impedance regulating transformer of the type having four windings including a primary winding, a secondary winding and two control windings wound on four legs of a transformer core. The core comprises in sequence a first leg of a first cross section, two legs of twice the first cross section and a fourth leg of the first cross section. The two control windings are located on the two legs of first cross section and the primary and secondary windings are located, respectively, on the two legs of twice the first cross section. The core can utilize standard transformer laminations.
Abstract:
Heterocyclic thiones are provided as depolarizers in secondary voltaic cells. The cells utilizing the organic depolarizer offer good stability in the uncharged condition nd good recharge characteristics after full discharge. A typical cell is the Leclanche system wherein the manganese dioxide is replaced by 2imidazolidinethione.
Abstract:
A METHOD IS PROVIDED FOR BONDING ORGANIC POLYMERS SUCH AS POLYPROPYLENE TO METALS WITH A HOT MELT ADHESIVE PREPARED FROM AN OLEFINIC INTERPOLYMER, A CARBOXYLIC FUNCTIONAL RESIN CAPABLE OF FLUXING THE METAL, AND A HYDROCARBON WAX. TECHNIQUES OF SPIN-WELDING USING THE STRUCTURAL METAL ADHESIVE ARE PROVIDED WHICH ARE PARTICULARLY EFFECTIVE IN SEALING AND BONDING BATTERY TERMINALS TO BATTERY CASES.
Abstract:
A machine for casting intercell connectors through the partition of open-top battery containers. The machine may also be used to cast intercell connectors which go over the tops of the partitions, and to cast battery terminal posts.
Abstract:
A zinc electrode containing a mercuric sulfide additive to reduce gassing at the zinc electrode which is used as the negative electrode in a heat sterilized silver-zinc alkaline battery. The mercuric sulfide effectively reduces gassing at the zinc electrode without adversely affecting the capacity of the heat sterilized battery, whereas the conventional mercuric oxide additive reduces the capacity of the heat sterilized battery. The mercuric sulfide additive may be used in combination with a lead sulfide additive.
Abstract:
Conventionally made, unformed storage battery plates comprised of a die-cast lead grid and a paste of lead oxide are preformed in a weakly acid or weakly alkaline electrolyte solution to provide a surface layer of lead peroxide high in alpha content on the active material of the plates. The formation of the plates is thereafter completed in a strongly alkaline electrolyte solution to provide plates having a formed active material of substantially all alpha lead peroxide.
Abstract:
A cell having an outward appearance similar to a conventional primary LeClanche cell but having certain internal structural features that render the cell rechargeable, including an organic depolarizer, insulating means about the portion of the carbon rod located in the cell airspace, laminated separator means about substantially the entire inner wall of the negative electrode can, laminated insulating means along the interior bottom of the negative electrode can, and a vent washer located on top of the cell sealant enabling gases formed in the cell interior to escape to the atmosphere. A one-piece plastic closure has also been developed which eliminates the need for the cell sealant and serves as an insulator about the portion of the carbon rod locatd in the airspace as well as incorporating means to vent gases from the cell, thereby eliminating the separate vent washer.
Abstract:
A multicell battery having intercell strap connectors around which the partitions are molded has joints integrally molded with and extending from the partitions and end walls of the container and also joined to the ends of the intercell strap connectors. The joints permit lateral movement of the ends of the intercell strap connectors with respect to the container, and thus prevent distortion of the container as the container and intercell strap connectors shrink or expand by unequal amounts.
Abstract:
A machine used in electrically testing battery intercell connectors and terminal posts. The machine includes electrical probes which, when used with appropriate electrical test circuits, can determine whether the connectors and posts are properly constructed and connected to the cell element.
