Abstract: 본 발며은 무선 ATM 통신 시스템에 관한 것으로서, 기지국(AP); 적어도 하나의 무선 터미널; 및 소정의 무선 ATM MAC 프로토콜을 사용하는 무선링크를 통해 기지국과 적어도 하나의 무선터미널간의 ATM 데이터 전송을 제어하는 매체접근제어수단을 포함함을 특징으로 하고, 무선 ATM MAC 프로토콜에서 사용되는 전송프레임은 프레임 헤더, 기지국에서 무선단말기로의 상향링크 전송를 위한 상향링크 필드 및 무선단말기에서 기지국으로의 하향링크 전송을 위한 하향링크필드 순으로 구성되는 프레임 구조를 가진다.
본 발명에 의하면, 다양한 트래픽 특성에 따른 QoS를 보장할 수 있는 전송프레임 구조 및 MAC 프로토콜을 제공한다. 본 발명에 의한 MAC 프로토콜은 고정 길이의 전송 프레임을 상하향 링크 필드로 구분하고 그 경계를 가변할 수 있다. 그리고 본 발명에 의한 전송프레임은 효율적인 버스트 구조를 통해 프레임 오버헤드를 최소화하였으며, AP의 스케쥴링 처리 시간을 충분히 보장한다.-
