    Abstract: A process for the continuous preparation of impact-modified styrene-acrylonitrile or styrene-methyl methacrylate polymers by free-radical-initiated graft polymerisation of styrene and acrylonitrile or methyl methacrylate in the presence of polybutadiene or styrene-butadiene block copolymers as the graft base and in the presence of a solvent, where firstly polybutadiene or the styrene-butadiene block copolymer is introduced in dissolved form and is converted into a disperse phase (phase inversion) during the grafting and polymerisation, in an apparatus comprising a reaction chamber with full back-mixing and a downstream tubular reactor and optionally an apparatus for removing residual monomers and solvent, where static mixing elements are present in the region of phase inversion, and the particle size and distribution are adjusted through the flow and/or sheer rates and/or temperature in the region of these mixing elements.

    Abstract: Ionically crosslinked ethylene copolymers are prepd. by mixing (I) an ethylene copolymer, contg. 0.1-20 mols.% of alpha,beta-ethylenically unsatd. carboxylic acid or comonomer supplying COOH gps., with (II) a mixt. of (a) a metal carbonate and (b) a copolymer of ethylene and a 1-8C alkyl ester of a 3-4C alkene carboxylic acid, at above the m.pt. of the ethylene copolymers. Mixt. II contains 10-50wt.% of metal salt and 90-50% of the copolymer (b). The copolymer (b) contains 2-12 mols.% of ester, esp. a 1-8C alkyl (meth)acrylate, partic. acrylic acid esters of ethanol, n-butanol or ethylhexanol. Copolymer I is mixed with an amt. of the mixt. II contg. sufficient cations to neutralise at least 10 mols.% of the COOH gps. in I.

    Abstract: A metering apparatus for introducing free-flowing, powdered substances in a controlled manner into spaces under pressure consists of a storing unit, a proportioning unit consisting of a shaft which is sealed in a housing with the aid of sealing rings and glands, can be rotated alternately through 180 DEG in each case and is provided with two depressions opposite one another, for accepting and discharging the substance respectively, an end unit consisting of a cylindrical cavity, which is sealed with the aid of sealing rings and glands and has a nozzle-like shape toward the space under pressure, and a spindle which is arranged concentrically with respect to the cavity, is capable of making to and fro stroke-like movements and, at its tip, has a slope corresponding to that of the nozzle-like feed, the end unit being arranged flush with the wall of the space, a connecting line between the storing unit and the accepting depression within the proportioning unit, a connecting line between the discharging depression within the proportioning unit and the cavity of the end unit, and two connections for inert gas.
