    Abstract: Polyalk-1-enes are prepared by polymerization of alk-1-enes with the aid of the compound bis(cyclopentadienyl)-chromium(II)in which the cyclopentadienyl rings may carry inert organic radicals, said compound being adsorbed on an inorganic oxide carrier, by a process in which the polymerization is carried out in the presence of an organometallic compound of a metal of main groups I to III or of a metal hydride, in particular of n-butyl-lithium.

    Abstract: The carrier catalsyt is obtd. by 1) forming pre-prod. (I) from finely divided silicate carrier (II), finely divided CrO3, a P cpd. (III) which is an oxy-ester or acid, and an organic-Ti cpd. (IV) which is in oxidised state then activating (I) by 2) heating in dry N2 stream for 6-500 minutes at 150-300 deg. C 3) heating in dry gas stream contg. more than 10 vol.% O2 for 10-1000 minutes at 300-900 deg. C and 4) heating in dry N2 stream for 10-300 minutes at 50-400 deg. C. (I) is prepd. by a) suspending (II) of particle dia. 1-400 microns, pore vol. 0.5-3 cub. cm/g, and specific surface area 100-1000 sq. m/g in 150-5000 pts. wt. inert organic solvent per 100 pts. wt. (II) b) suspending CrO3 of particle dia. less than 2000 microns in more than 1 pt. wt. inert organic solvent per pt. wt. CrO3 c) thoroughly mixing suspension from b) with sufficient (III) at 0-60 deg. C to give 0-60 deg. C to give 0.6-10 pts. wt. P in (III) per pt. wt. Cr in the CrO3, and maintaining at this temp. for 5-300 minutes d) thoroughly mixing suspensions from a) and from c) at 0-60 deg. c at 0.1-5 pts. wt. Cr in the CrO3 per 100 pts. wt. (II) and maintaining at this temp. for 5-300 minutes e) thoroughly mixing combined suspensions with sufficient (IV) at 0-60 deg. C to give 0.1-10 pts. wt. Ti in the (IV) per 100 pts. wt. (II) and maintaining at this temp. for 5-300 minutes f) evaporating to dryness mixt. from e) at not more than 100 deg. C, opt. under reduced pressure to leave the catalyst carrier. (III) has formula P(O)(OR)3 or P(O)H(OR)2 where R = alkyl, aryl, or cycloalkyl of up to 12 C or H, at least one R not being H; (IV) has formula Ti(OR1)4 where R1 = alkyl, aryl, or cycloalkyl of up to 12 C.

    Abstract: Ethene polymers comprising small particles are prepared by means of a Ziegler catalyst system comprising (1) a titanium-containing catalyst component obtained by (1.1) precipitation in an organic liquid comprising (1.1.1) a solution of titanium tetrachloride in a hydrocarbon (1.1.2) a solution of a certain organoaluminium compound in a hydrocarbon and (1.1.3) an alpha-monoalkene, and (2) an aluminium-containing catalyst component, characterised in that (1) is a catalyst component in which (1.1) has been precipitated at relatively low temperatures in an organic liquid which has a relatively high viscosity at the precipitation temperature and comprises (a) a hydrocarbon in liquid form and (b) relatively small amounts of a polymer of an alpha-monoalkene dissolved therein, with the provisos that (i) specific amounts of the organic liquid of the organoaluminium compound and of the alpha-monoalkene are employed per g mol of all the titanium tetrachloride employed, and (ii) specific amounts are precipitated per minute and specific amounts of the alpha- monoalkene are introduced per minute per mol unit of all the titanium tetrachloride employed, and (1.2) the precipitate as in (1.1) has been reacted with an alkyl lithium compound.
