Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and safely perform maintenance and inspection at low cost with its high visibility by providing a light emitting end of a light transmission body, and comprising a light deflection apparatus for emitting the emitted light in a side direction orthogonal to an axial direction of the light transmission body. SOLUTION: As a light source 2, an LED arranged in the vicinity of a proximal end of a light transmission tube 1 is used, and light emitting colors can be selected according to purposes such as red, blue, and green. An incandescent lamp, a discharge lamp or the like is also employed. A reflection plate 21 for focusing the light from the light source 2 is provided in a lamp house 5 for housing the light source 2, and the focused light is made incident to a proximal end of the light transmission tube 1. The light transmission tube 1 can be easily mounted to and removed from a detachable part 50. A roof type prism is used for a light deflection apparatus 3, a light emitting region can be restrained at given angle distributions according to an apex angle, and the light is emitted in horizontal two directions. When a cone prism is used, the light can be omnidirectionally emitted at one part, and light emission with high visibility is obtained efficiently.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide side surface light emission excellent in water resistance and environment resistance and low in power consumption by arranging a light source in a waterproof condition in at least one end part in the lengthwise direction of a light transmitting tube composed of a transparent core material and a clad material having a refractive index smaller than the core material. SOLUTION: A linear luminous body has a light transmitting tube (forming a light reflecting layer) being a light emitting means, a light source and a driving device. The light transmitting tube is composed of a transparent tubular clad 11, a transparent core 12 and a light reflecting layer 13. A reflective protective film 14 is formed on the other part outside surface of the clad 11 by covering the light reflecting layer 13. A flexible material such as plastic and elastomer is desirable as a clad material. An acrylic polymer is desirable as a core material. The light reflecting layer 13 is a scattering particle such as a silicone resin to scatter the light, and the light source is an LED. Foil such as of silver and aluminium can be used as the reflective protective film 14.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily confirm the position of a crossing gate, and to significantly enhance the safety of a vehicle crossing the crossing gate, even in the case of bad weather conditions such as rain and mist or at night. SOLUTION: A lighting device for a railroad crossing gate is provided with a light source 2 that emits or flickers the light of a wavelength striking to the driver of an automobile or the like, a driving part 3 that has both a solar cell 32 and a battery 31 for storing the electromotive force generated by this solar cell 32 for supplying the electric power to the light source 2, and a line light emitting means 1 that has arranged to the crossing bar from which the light rays emitted from the light source 2 are radiated or flickered in a line shape. Thereby, different from an alarm device or a traffic-control sign, especially even in the case of dark circumferential conditions due to bad weather such as the rain and mist or at night, the position of a crossing gate or the position of a span line can be securely perceived by the light from a brilliant line light emitting means, and the visibility can be significantly enhanced, so that the safety of vehicles such as an automobile, a motorcycle, and a cart crossing over a railroad crossing can be significantly enhanced.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low-cost light diffusing sheet hard to scratch and well fittable with a plane light emitter by blending a transparent thermoplastic elastomer with solid light scattering nuclei. SOLUTION: The back light unit of a liq. crystal display device has a light diffusing sheet 6 laminated on a light guiding plate 1 and light from a lamp 4 is sent from the light guiding plate 1 to the display of the display device through the light diffusing sheet 6. The sheet 6 is made of a blend of a transparent thermoplastic elastomer with solid light scattering nuclei. The elastomer as the base material is preferably a flexible elastomer (polymer) such as polyurethane, PE or an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer. The light scattering nuclei are formed by mixing the elastomer with inorg. solid particles or powder or mixing two or more kinds of thermoplastic elastomers different from each other in refractive index under melting or in the form of particles (powders).

Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent a solid core from protruding by fixing tubular members to both ends of a clad packed with this core so as to cover their outer peripheral surfaces and pressing the projecting parts for detaining projected to the inner peripheral edges at the front ends of these tubular members to the end faces of the core. CONSTITUTION: The outer peripheral surfaces at both ends of the clad 2 of the light transmission tube 1 formed by packing the solid core 3 having a refractive index higher than the refractive index of the tubular transparent clad 2 into this clad 2 are respectively covered and fixed with the tubular members 4 and the inner peripheral edges at the front ends of the tubular members 4 are projectingly provided with the annular detaining parts 5 having the width arriving at the end faces of the core 3 beyond the end faces of the clad 2. The inside surfaces of the detaining parts 5 are pressed to the end faces of the core 3. The tubular members 4 are preferably formed of mouthpieces made of metals, such as stainless steel. These mouthpieces are caulked at a caulking rate of 10 to 90%, by which the mouthpieces are fixed to the clad 2 and simultaneously, the core 3 is preferably fixed by this caulking to the clad 2.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an optical transmission tube which is flexible, has excellent heat resistance, a high refractive index and high transmission efficiency, and can be easily installed in a desired place by using silicone oil or gel containing phenyl groups for the core of the optical transmission tube. CONSTITUTION:A hollow tubular clad 1 is filled with a transparent core 2, and both of the open ends of the tubular clad 1 is sealed with sealing caps 3a, 3b. As for the core material, a silicone oil or gel haying phenyl groups is used. In this method, the amt. of phenyl groups is 10-60mol%, preferably 15-50mol%, and more preferably 20-40mol% of the whole org. groups bonded to silicon atoms. It is preferable that the refractive index of the silicone oil or gel containing phenyl groups is >=1.45, especially >=1.47 at room temp. Moreover, the silicone oil or gel is in a liquid or gel state at room temp. and its viscosity is preferably >50cP at room temp.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To manufacture a light emitting element having a large light emitting area and being capable of emitting light in all directions uniformly by forming a light scattering body out of transparent material having a different refraction index dispersed evenly in a transparent matrix and the matrix, surrounding the body with a thin wall hollow body made of light transmissive material. CONSTITUTION:In a transparent matrix 2a (polymethyl methacrylate or the like), a transparent material 2b (average particle dia. is about 0.01 to 50 microns) having a complete spherical form and having a different refraction of index from that of the matrix is dispersed uniformly to form a block shaped light scattering body 2. To the body 2, a light transmission tube 4 is connected, a hollow body 5 having a light transmissive characteristic and being subjected to rough treatment at its inner and outer faces to be a mat finished form (wall thickness is about 1 to 10mm) is arranged to surround the body 2 with a specified interval. It is thus possible to provide a light emitting body having a large light emitting area and emitting light in all directions evenly.
