    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply high electric field, to provide high-intensity luminescence, to prevent the occurrence of a dark spot and to provide a stable luminescence output by arranging a positive electrode and a negative electrode on the same plane of a substrate, and arranging one or multiple organic compound layers on both electrodes. SOLUTION: A positive electrode 2 and a negative electrode 3 are provided on a substrate 1, and an organic compound layer 4 is provided on both electrodes 2, 3 to form a luminescence element. A transparent protective membrane may be formed on the organic compound layer 4, thereby the mixing of gas such as oxygen and water can be prevented, and durability can be increased. An insulating plate made of glass or a plastic film is used for the substrate 1. A hole transportation compound, a hole transportation emitter compound or an electron transportation compound can be used as the component for forming the organic compound layer 4. The luminescence on the organic compound layer 4 is obtained between the positive electrode 2 and the negative electrode 3 where electric field is operated, thus a luminescence pattern can be properly set by changing the distance both electrodes 2, 3.

In formula I and formula II, R1 to R5 are each a hydrogen atom, halogen atom, alkyl group, aryl group, heterocyclic group, aliphatic carbonyl group, aromatic carbonyl group, heterocyclic carbonyl group and nitro group. M is a metal. R is selected from groups expressed by formula III and formula IV. In formula III and formula IV, R7 and R8 are each a hydrogen atom, alkyl group and aryl group; and R11 and R12 are each a hydrogen atom, halogen atom, nitro group and primary or secondary aliphatic amino group. The thickness of an organic layer is desirably thinner than 2 μm.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain continuous light emission for a long time by applying AC voltage to an electroluminescence(EL) plate at the time of non-selection of scanning. SOLUTION: A light emitting signal is synchronized with a pulse of voltage 2V0 of a first phase of a scan selecting signal and a light emission inducing signal having voltage -V0 is set, voltage 3V0 being more than light emission threshold value voltage 2V0 in the forward bias direction is applied to EL and a light emitting state is caused. Further, the light emitting signal is synchronized with voltage 0 of a second phase of the scan selecting signal, voltage V0 is applied, voltage -V0 is applied to EL in this case, but it is made into a non- light emitting state. When a non-light emitting signal is synchronized with a first phase voltage and a second phase voltage of the scan selecting signal and applied, voltage V0 is applied respectively, and a non-light emitting state is caused. On the other hand, either of a light emitting signal or a nonlight emitting signal is received by EL from an information signal line at the time of applying a scan non-selecting signal (non-selection period), AC voltage formed by voltage V0 and voltage -V0 constituting a light emitting signal and a non- light emitting signal is applied.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the continuous light emission for long time by disposing oppositely a thin film transistor substrate and an electroluminescent substrate and connecting electrode pads and electrodes of one side of one pair of electrodes through adhesive electric connecting bodies. SOLUTION: Relating to an electroluminescent body (EL) element a thin film transistor(TFT) substrate 3 and an EL substrate 6 are faced each other and the EL electrode pad 62 of the EL substrate 6 side and the drain electrode pad 22 of the TFT substrate side are oppositely disposed and electrical connection between both electrodes is performed with an adhesive electric connecting body 71. This adhesive electric connecting body 71 is obtained by using conductive adhesive in which conductive particles such as carbon particles, silver particles, cupper particles and so forth are dispersedly incorporated in epoxy or phenolic thermal hardening adhesive and by coating it on the EL substrate 6 or the TFT substrate or on prescribed positions of both substrates and by drying it. Moreover, adhesive electric insulator 72 is provided at the outside part of the adhesive electric connecting body 71.
