Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member (1) with a recirculatively movable peripheral surface; and means for forming electrostatic latent images (3) on the peripheral surface of the image bearing member (1), the means comprising a charging member (2) to which voltage is applicable to charge the image bearing member (1), the charging member (2) comprising a flexible member (2b) capable of forming a nip (n) between itself and the image bearing member (1); means for developing (4) the latent image with the use of developer (4d) composed of toner particles (t) and electrically conductive particles (m), the developing means (4) being capable of cleaning the residual toner particles (t) from the image bearing member (1), and the electrically conductive particles (m) transferred onto the image bearing member (1) by the developing means (4) being delivered to the nip (n) by the image bearing member (1); wherein the flexible member (2b) is moved so that it maintains a peripheral velocity difference relative to the image bearing member (1).

Abstract: An image forming apparatus is constituted by an electrophotographic photosensitive member including a support and a photosensitive layer disposed on the support, charging means for charging the photosensitive member, exposure means for illuminating the charged photosensitive member with a light beam, developing means, and transfer means. The exposure means illuminates the charged photosensitive member with a light beam having a spot area (S) and said photosensitive layer has a thickness (T), wherein S and T provides the product (S x T) of at most 20,000 mu m which is effective in improving a resolution and gradation reproducibility. The photosensitive member and at least one means selected from the group consisting of charging means, developing means, and cleaning means may preferably be integrally supported to form a process cartridge which is detachably mountable to an image forming apparatus main body.

Abstract: The device comprises two electrodes (11,12) embedded in a dielectric member (10), supplied with an AC voltage (14) between them to cause a discharge (15) adjacent to a part of a surface of the dielectric member (10) at a predetermined discharge starting voltage while a DC bias voltage is applied by the DC bias voltage source (19) between an exposed electrode (13) and the conductive layer of the member (2) to be charged. The exposed electrode (13) is positioned near or to a part of the surface of the dielectric member (10) such that when the discharge (15) occurs by application of the AC voltage (14) between the first and second electrodes (11,12), no discharge occurs between the first electrode (11) and the third electrode (13) or between the second electrode (12) and the third electrode (13).

The variation of charge density can be achieved by positioning the discharging electrode 5 nearer to one edge of the inducing electrode 4, on providing several discharging electrodes at varying spacings.

Abstract: An electrophotographic apparatus includes an electrophotographic photosensitive member; charging means for charging the electrophotographic photosensitive member including a charging member supplied with a voltage and disposed in contact with the photosensitive member so as to form a nip with the photosensitive member to charge the photosensitive member; exposure means; developing means; and transfer means. The photosensitive member includes a surface layer containing a charge-transporting material having an oxidation potential of 0.4 - 1.0 volt. Charging promoter particles are present at the nip between the photosensitive member and the charging member to injection-charge the photosensitive member. Because of the selection of the charge-transporting material and the presence of the charging promoter particles, the photosensitive member can be effectively injection-charged.
