    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make stable and speedy driving performable by constituting a cell with an electrolyte inclusive of a specific ion and plural electrodes, and making the electrolyte coexist together with a mechanochemical material having a high molecule to be swollen and contracted according to a variation in content of the specific ion. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 1 consisting of a copper plate or the like and another electrode 2 consisting of a platinum plate or the like having a polyaniline layer produced by means of electrolytic polymerization with a sulphate ion as a pair anion on the surface both are inserted into an electrolyte 4 filled up in an insulating vessel 5, thus a cell is constituted. And, a cylindrical mechanochemical material 3, having a high molecule to be swollen and contracted reversibly according to a variation in content of a specific ion in the contained liquid, is housed in the electrolyte 4 of the cell like this. And, at this time, a splicer 7 is stuck to a free end of this mechanochemical material 3, and an end of this splicer 7 is connected to a silicone flexible film 6 closing an end of the vessel 5 whereby this film 6 is made drivable.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To simply measure the concn. of a salt on the basis of the change of a sensor itself like cloudiness and shrinkage, by holding a layer or lump of an org. polymer generating phase change or volume change according to the concn. of the salt to a support. CONSTITUTION:An org. polymer 2 is held on a support 1. The gel 2 is formed of a crosslinked polymer and a solvent but the combination of both of them is adjusted so that the crosslinked polymer forms the gel 2 and the formed gel 2 generate shrinkage and cloudiness by the action of a salt. When the gel 2 is injected in a semipermeable membrane 4 from the glass cylindrical part 3 communicating with the semipermeable membrane 4, the part of the semipermeable membrane 4 where the gel 2 is covered and preserved becomes the detection part 5 of the concn. of the salt and the semipermeable membrane 4 to be used is selected in accordance with the kind of a salt solution of which the concn. must be inspected. By this constitution, the concn. of the salt can be simply measured on the basis of the change of the sensor itself like cloudiness and shrinkage.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To form a high quality image which can be used conveniently and repeatedly, by applying an external signal onto a transfer medium having a polymer gel layer containing a first component, then transferring the first component to a transferring material and reacting the first component with a second component thus making a record. CONSTITUTION:When a transfer medium 10 and material 5 to be transferred are laminated then radiation beam such as infrared beam 3 is irradiated from the side of the transferring medium 10 according to an information signal, a polymer gel layer 2 is heated and a heated portion 6 shrinks thermally. Consequently, agents contained therein exudes in the form of solution or dispersion liquid, which reacts with an agent on the material 5 to be transferred so as to develop or extinct a color thus transferring an image 7 being formed according to the information signal onto the material 5 to be transferred. When irradiation of the infrared beam is interrupted, the portion 6 where the agent exuded is recovered to the original polymer gel in a short time then recovered to the original state containing the agent through dispersion. Consequently, transfer can be repeated until the agent in the polymer gel layer is consumed entirely.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To facilitate constituting a switching element made of organic material economically and easily by a method wherein an organic film composed of electric insulating layers and conductive layers which are alternately built up is provided between a pair of electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Vacuum evaporation of Cr is applied to a glass substrate by resistance heating to form a Cr layer 22. Further, the vacuum evaporation of Au is applied to the Cr layer 22 to form an Au layer 23 which is used as a foundation electrode substrate. Then a monomolecular film 4 is formed on an aqueous phase. The electrode substrate is dipped gently in a direction crossing the water surface while a surface pressure is kept constant. Then the electrode substrate is pulled up and two layers of Y-type monomolecular films are built up. This built-up procedure is repeated three times to form a monomolecular built-up layer 5. Then by a resistance heating method the vacuum evaporation of Au is applied to the film surface to form an upper electrode 21. Current-voltage characteristics between the electrodes of the element formed like this is measured, and new nonlinear current-voltage characteristics of organic material can be obtained as shown in the figure. With this constitution, the switching element can be obtained by an economical and easy method without a high temperature heat treatment and the like compared with the conventional super-lattice element which is made of inorganic material.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the transmittivity when a picture element shutter is open by providing a film of a high-polymer material which orients plural layers preferentially in one direction to one substrate of a pair of parallel substrates and further subjecting the substrate surfaces to a rubbing treatment. CONSTITUTION:Orientation control films 14a and 14b consisting of the film of the high-polymer material formed of the polymerizable monomolecular films or cumulative monomercular films are respectively disposed on the substrates 11a and 11b. The molecules constituting the monomolecular films or cumulative monomercular films are the molecules which have a polymerizable part thereon and have a hydrophilic part and hydrophobic part in combination. An external factor is given to the monomolecular film developed on a liquid surface at the time of transferring said film to the substrate to improve the arrangement or orientation of the film constituting molecules after the accumulation, by which the control of the axial direction of the uniaxial orientation is executed. The external factor refers to ruggedness and is obtd. by subjecting the substrate surface to the uniaxial orientation treatment by the rubbing treatment.

A ferroelectric liquid crystal 13 having the non-spiral structure exhibiting two stable states is disposed between the upper substrate 11a and the lower substrate 11b. Orientation control films 14a and 14b formed of the monomolecular films or cumulative monomercular films of the high-polymer compd. are respectively disposed to the substrates 11a and 11b. The high-polymer compd. constituting the monomolecular films or cumulative monomercular films has the hydrophilic part and hydrophobic part in combination within the molecule thereof. A representative example as the constituting element of the hydrophobic part in general is an alkyl group or unsatd. hydrocarbon group. The orientation control function not possible with the conventional orientation control films is developed by arranging and orienting the molecules having such higher structure in high order.
