Abstract: The apparatus comprising: a plurality of probe electrodes (31) for recording and reproducing information; support means (33) for unitedly supporting said plurality of probe electrodes (31) in parallel facing the medium (34); adjusting means (35,37) for adjusting a spacing between said medium (34) and said support means (33); displacing means (32) for, in order to independently adjust a spacing between said medium (34) and each tip (3101) of the probe electrodes (31), independently displacing the respective probe electrodes (31) in a direction of the spacing; and control means (39,310) for controlling said displacing means (32) such that all spacings between said medium (34) and said respective probe electrode tips (3101) are made equivalent; in which apparatus or method said control means (39,310) are adapted to control said adjusting means (35,37) such that, upon the control of said displacing means (32), an average of displacement amounts of said plural probe electrodes (31) is substantially zero or a sum of squares of displacement of said plural probe electrodes (31) is minimized.

Abstract: Information recording/reproducing apparatus and method by use of probe electrodes are disclosed. In this method, information to be recorded on a recording medium is encoded. The encoded information is distributed to a plurality of probe electrodes. The plurality of probe electrodes are driven on the basis of the distributed information so as to record the information on the recording medium. In reproduction, the information recorded on the recording medium is read out from the recording medium by use of the plurality of probe electrodes. The information read out from the recording medium is stored by use of the plurality of probe electrodes. The stored information is decoded to reproduce the information recorded on the recording medium. The encoding is performed by changing the information to be recorded to information added with an error correction code.

Abstract: An image signal processing apparatus for temporarily storing image information, and outputting the information after signal processing is disclosed. The apparatus includes a dividing unit for dividing the input image information, a memory which stores the divided information, and a control unit for controlling a scanning unit of the memory so as to edit and output the image information. The memory includes a plurality of probe electrodes, a recording medium arranged to oppose the probe electrodes, the scanning unit for moving the probe electrodes relative to the recording medium so that the probe electrodes scan the surface of the recording medium, and a voltage application unit for applying a voltage between the recording medium and each probe electrode so as to record the divided information in each scanning region on the recording medium of the probes, and to reproduce the divided image information recorded in each scanning region.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for driving an electron source in which a high-quality image display is presented by correcting a non-uniform effective current distribution caused in cold cathode elements by leakage current. A digital video signal enters a shift register where a serial-to-parallel conversion is made for each line of an image based upon a shift clock signal. One line of the image data that has been subjected to the serial-to-parallel conversion is latched in a latch circuit and then applied to a voltage modulating circuit. The latter voltage-modulates the input data and sends the modulated signal to a voltage/current converting circuit. The latter converts the voltage quantity to a current quantity, which is applied to each of the cold cathode elements of a display panel through respective column terminals. A voltage V1 is applied to the selected row wire, and a voltage V2 (V2 NOTEQUAL V1) is applied to all other row wires, for controllig the leakage current.
