Abstract: Copolymers comprising from 5 to 50 % by weight of one or more glycidyl esters of saturated aliphatic C4-C30-monocarboxylic acids containing a tertiary or quaternary alpha -carbon atom and from 95 to 5 % by weight of at least two olefinically unsaturated, copolymerisable monomers, of which at least one contains at least one carboxyl group. The copolymers are characterised by an OH number of from 50 to 250 mg of KOH/g, a solution viscosity of from 15 to 2000 mPa s (50 % strength solution at 23 DEG C), a mean molecular weight (weight average Mw) of less than 8600 g/mol and a nonuniformity of less than 3.4. The copolymers according to the invention are particularly suitable as binder components for high-solids coating compositions.

Abstract: Low-viscosity copolymers with OH and COOH gps. (I) are obtd. by reacting (A) 3 - 50 wt.% glycidyl ester(s) of satd. aliphatic carboxylic acids with a tert. or quat. alpha -C atom and (B) 97 - 50 wt.% of at least 2 unsatd. comonomers, at least one of which contains at least one COOH gp. and at least one of which is sterically hindered, in the presence of radical initiators, and with an excess of COOH gps. in (B) wrt. epoxide gps. in (A) such that the prod. has an acid no. of at least 15 mg KOH/g. Also claimed is the above process for the prodn. of (I). Also claimed are 1-component paints with (I) as binder and formaldehyde/amino-resin reaction prods. (opt. etherated with 1 - 8 C aliphatic alcohol) as hardeners, and 2-component paints with (I) as binder and polyisocyanates or urethane-forming polyisocyanate derivs. as hardeners.

Abstract: A cycloolefin polymer moulding composition containing organophosphorus compounds of the formula IX R -[P(OR )2]n (IX), of the formula X or of the formula XI optionally in addition to other additives, exhibits improved stability to chemical degradation. The organophosphorus compounds used according to the invention preserve the melt viscosity of the moulding composition at the highest level (least deviation from the initial value). They also result in the best initial colours of the test specimens and in a smaller colour change after compounding (kneading) experiments.

Abstract: Producing polymer alloys (I) comprises combining finely divided cyclo-olefin copolymers (A) and finely divided poly-olefins (B) and processing the mixt. at elevated temp. under the action of shear forces. Block copolymers (A1) are prepd. by (co)polymerisation of 0.1-95 wt.% monomer(s) of formula (IIA-F), 0-95 wt.% cyclo-olefin of formula (III) and 0-99 wt.% acyclic olefin(s) of formula (IV) at -78 to 150 deg.C and 0.01-64 bar in the presence of a catalyst system contg. a co-catalyst (C) and a metallocene (M); when the block copolymer has M2/Mn below 2, the monomer/comonomer ratio is changed by at least 10% or another monomer of formula (II-IV) is added, and the prod. is isolated. 0.1-99 wt.% (IA) is combined with 0-95 wt.% (B), 0-95 wt.% cyclo-olefin polymer contg. the above monomers which is not a block copolymer (A2), and opt. additives, and the mixt. is processed as above. Pref. (B) are poly-1-olefins, esp. polyethylene (PE), 0-50 pts. wt. HDPE, or polypropylene (PP), isotatic PP. (I) are made by combining 1-55 pts. wt. (A1), 10-80 pts. wt. (B) and 10-80 pts. wt. (A2), pref. with ratio (B)/(A1) = at least 1:1. (M) is a metallocene of formula (V) (where M1 = Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb or Ta; R14,R15 = H, halo, 1-10C alkyl or alkoxy, 6-10C aryl or aryloxy, 2-10C alkenyl, 7-40C aralkyl or alkaryl, or 8-40C aralkenyl; R16,R17 = mono- or poly-nuclear hydrocarbon residue which can form a sandwich structure with M1; R18 = M2R19R20-, -M2R19R20-M2R19R20-, M2R19R20-C(R21)2-, -CR19R20-, -O-M2R19R20-, CR19R20-CR19R20-, =BR19, -A1R19, -Ge-, -Sn-, -O-, -S-, -SO-, -SO2-, =NR19, =CO, =PR19 or =P(O)R19 (with R19-R21 = H, halo, 1-10C alkyl, alkoxy or fluroalkyl, 6-10C aryl or fluoroaryl, 2-10C alkenyl, 7-40C aralkyl or alkaryl, or 8-40C aralkenyl, or R19/R20 or R19/R21 form part of a ring; M2 = Si, Ge or Sn).
