Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining a position of a mobile satellite positioning system (SPS) receiver is described. A position of a mobile satellite positioning system (SPS) receiver is determined by initially determining a plurality of satellite pseudoranges between said mobile SPS receiver and a corresponding plurality of satellites. Then, at least one non-satellite pseudomeasurement is determined. Finally, a condition of at least one of said plurality of satellite pseudoranges is determined.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for wireless communications wherein a base station transmits a signal to sending data to a subscriber station through a signal beam that sweeps through the coverage area of the base station. User data addressed to the subscriber station is buffered until the signal beam angle of the signal beam allows efficient transmission. The base station may alter the beam sweep speed or the shape of the beam's radiation pattern over time to maximize system efficiency and capacity.

Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein address the need in the art for an extended acknowledgment/rate control channel. In one aspect, an acknowledgment command and a rate control command are combined to form a combined command. In another aspect, the combined command is generated in accordance with a constellation of points, each point corresponding to a pair consisting of a rate control command and an acknowledgment command. In yet another aspect, the points of the constellation are designed to provide the desired probability of error for the respective command pairs. In yet another aspect, a common rate control command is transmitted along with a combined or dedicated rate control command. Various other aspects are also presented. These aspects have the benefit of reduced overhead while providing acknowledgment and rate control to single remote stations and/or groups of remote stations.

Abstract: The present invention is a novel and improved method and apparatus for contr ol transmission energy. The present invention describes a closed loop power control system that operates in conjunction with a transmitter (64, 66) usin g orthogonal transmit diversity. In a first embodiment of the present inventio n, the receiver evaluates the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the two components of the signal. A weighted sum of these two components emphasizing the weaker of the two signals is generated and used in the generation of the power control commands. In a second embodiment of the present invention, the SNR o f the two component signals are calculated and two separate power control commands are generated based on a corresponding one of the calculated SNR values.
