    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make controllable a light beam of a short wavelength fast by heating a dielectric base body to room temperature or above with a specific heat source. SOLUTION: The dielectric base body 2 is heated by a heat unit 6 having a heater 6B on a block material 6A. A temperature sensor 2 is built in the block material 6A and on the basis of its detection result, the base body is heated to specific temperature, i.e., room temperature or above by the heater 6B. A blue light beam L1 which is made incident on the incidence surface of the dielectric base body 2 is transmitted through a domain wall formed vertically on the main surface of the dielectric base body 2, then separated into two light beams L2a and L2b which vary in light intensity complementarily with the signal level of control signals applied to electrodes 3 and 4 and projected. When the light beam L1 is propagated in the dielectric base body 2, it is stably controlled on condition that the dielectric base body 2 is heated to 80 deg.C or above. Consequently, the extent of light damage is reducible.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optic element which allows high-speed random access, has a large deflectable angle and, in the case of an optical deflection element, etc., having high resolution, may be stably integrated with high accuracy by one element. SOLUTION: This element 110 has a ferroelectric substrate 1, electrodes 3, 4 disposed on the main surfaces 43, 44 of this ferroelectric substrate 1 and function parts consisting of polarization inversion domains 2 formed to a prescribed shape in the ferroelectric substrate 1 and is so constituted that a light beam 41 passes the domains 2. In such a case, the plural function parts which execute at least two among the function to condense at least part of the light beam 41, the function to disperse the part and the function to deflect the propagation direction of the part according to the voltage impressed between the electrodes 3 and 4 or/and the function parts 111 which execute the same functions at the plural points are integrated.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optic element capable of controlling the polarization state of a light beam correctly and at a high speed, and also capable of shifting the light beam at a desired intensity and to provide a wavelength filter and an optical intensity modulator using the electro-optic element. SOLUTION: This element 10 has ferroelectric substrates 1 and polarization inverting domains 2 formed in prescribed form in these ferroelectric substrates 1 and at least one domain wall of domain walls 2a, 2b of those polarization inverting domain 2 is made to be perpendicular or roughly perpendicular to principal planes 3, 4 of the ferroelectric substrate 1 and this element is constituted so that a light beam 51 passes at least two domain wall 2a, 2b. Moreover, electrodes 41, 42 are provided on side faces 5, 6 of the ferroelectric substrate 1 which are different from the principal planes 3, 4 and the polarization direction of an incident light beam is made to be changed by impressing a voltage between these electrodes.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the solidification, hemostasis and incision of viable tissues and the grinding of bones and teeth by one device by obtaining the two kinds of the laser beams of different wavelengths from a laser beam source. SOLUTION: Fundamental laser beams oscillated and emitted by a solid laser excited by a semiconductor laser are made incident to an optical parametric oscillator and the two kinds of the laser beams of the different wavelengths are emitted. The two kinds of the laser beams are wave-guided to a laser cautery 54 by optical fibers 15 and 19 and a first laser beam ω0 1 provided with a wavelength range suitable for executing the solidification and the hemostasis to the viable tissues and a second laser beam ω0 2 provided with the wavelength range suitable for the incision of the viable tissues and the grinding of the bones and the teeth among them are utilized for operations. Thus, the two kinds of the operations are made possible by one device.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To modulate output intensity without fluctuating the wavelength of output light by providing two pseudo phase matching parts and an electric field impressing means for forming an electric field impressing region by impressing a voltage from the outside. CONSTITUTION:At least the two pseudo phase matching parts 2A, 2B formed by holding a required spacing are provided in the progressing direction of an optical waveguide 1. The electric field impressing means 3 forming the electric field impressing region M by impressing the voltage from the outside are provided between the adjacent pseudo phase matching parts 2A and 2B. The constitution to add the phase of the second harmonic wave generated in the pseudo phase matching part 2A on an input terminal 1i side where the fundamental wave light of the optical waveguide 1 is introduced to the second harmonic wave generated in the pseudo phase matching part 2B behind the above- mentioned matching part is adopted. The output intensity as the whole is modulated by matching the phases of the second harmonic waves in both pseudo phase matching parts 2A, 2B by the phase modulation in the electric field impressing region between the respective pseudo phase matching parts 2A and 2B or properly shifting these phases.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve conversion efficiency by constituting a resonator including a non-linear optical crystal. CONSTITUTION:The device is provided with the non-linear optical crystal plate 2 having a periodic structure of reversing polarization 1 in which a polarization reversing region is formed throughout the thickness of the plate and the resonator containing the nonlinear optical crystal plate 2 is constituted. Thus, since phase matching is surely performed, a so-called bulk-type SHG(a second harmonic generator) with a high conversion efficiency is constituted. Since total reflection is generated by forming the principal planes 2a and 2b of the non-linear optical crystal 2 for optical waveguiding into parallel planes or a fundamental wave is made to propagate over comparatively a long distance by crystallizing the reflecting plane while the guided light satisfies a pseudo phase-matching condition by means of a periodic structure of reversing polarization 1, the distance of non-linear interaction is extended and the conversion efficiency of the second harmonic is increased.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve output and conversion efficiency by providing a light waveguide path at a position which is included inside from the surface of the ferroelectric substance. CONSTITUTION:A periodic polarization reversal structure section 3 which is deeply polarized and reversed in a ferroelectric substance 1 is provided, and an optical waveguide 2 is provided in a position included inside from the surface of this ferroelectric substance 1. When it is manufactured, two processes are used, that is, a process in which the optical waveguide 2 is formed in the ferroelectric substance 1 single-domained, and a process in which the periodic polarization reversal structure section 3 deeply polarized and reversed after or before the above mentioned process. Therefore, the periodic polarization reversal structure can be formed so that a region in which the polarization is reversed has superior shape control characteristic over a deep region of a ferroelectric substance 1. Thus, SHG(the second harmonic of light generating element) having extremely high conversion efficiency can be constituted by forming the wavelength path 2 having superior in a symmetrical character of a refraction index distribution inside a substrate in which the periodic polarization reversal deeply performed inside of ferroelectric substance crystals.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent a foreign material such as a metallic piece or the like from being in contact with an electrode section of a device toward the electrode such as a battery pack or a video light. CONSTITUTION:An electrode plate 21 is mounted to a base 30. An electrode cover 31 covering the electrode 21 is freely slidably fitted to an upper part of the base 30. An opening 34 to expose the electrode 21 in the cover open state is provided to an upper plate 33 of the electrode cover 1. The electrode cover 31 is energized always toward the closed cover with a tensile spring 32 interposed with the base 30. The electrode cover 31 is opened by latching the projected electrode 11 of a video camera 1 or the like to the opening 34 and moving the electrode 11 laterally. Contact of a foreign material such as a metallic piece onto the electrode 21 is prevented in the device to which the electrode device 3 is mounted. Thus, it is prevented that the metallic piece in contact is molten and the electric circuit of the device is short-circuited and damaged.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the yield in a polarization inversion process and to improve productivity by subjecting a ferroelectric crystal to a heat treatment in a uniform stress loading state and executing the polarization inversion. CONSTITUTION:Striped Ti layers 7 are formed on the ferroelectric crystal 4 consisting of a single crystal substrate of single-domained LiNbO3. This ferroelectric crystal 4 is imposed via a support 3 in a sample base 1 and a load imparting body 5 is imposed thereon via the support 3. This support 3 uniformly loads the stresses to the ferroelectric crystal 4 by its wire-shaped front end part. The polarization inversion is periodically executed in this state by an ordinary Ti diffusion method, i.e. heating, to obtain the periodic domain structures. The polarization inversion is accelerated in this way and the fluctuationed in the polarization inversion by the fluctuations of the ferroelectric crystal wafers and crystal lots are decreased in this way and the workability and yield are improved.
