Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester compsn. improved in respect of dispersibility therein of particles and abrasion resistance of a molded product thereof by adding a slurry contg. sodium atoms and having a given pH to cross-linked polymer particles. CONSTITUTION:A slurry contg. sodium atoms in an amt. of 500ppm to 10,000ppm by wt. in terms of NaOH and having a pH of 6 to 9 is added to cross-linked polymer particles in an arbitrary step during preparation of a polyester compsn. or after preparation thereof to obtain a polyester compsn. The cross-linked polymer particles are not particularly limited in respect of compsn., and may be any such particles in so far as at least part of them is made up of a cross- linked polymer insoluble in a polyester. In general, specific examples of the cross-linked polymer particles include particles of copolymers of a monovinyl compd. (A) having only 1 aliph. unsatd. bond per molecule (e.g. styrene) with a compd. (B) having at least 2 aliph. unsatd. bonds per molecule (e.g. divinylbenzene) as the cross-linking component. The method of adding sodium atoms to the slurry is not particularly limited.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a polyethylene naphthalate film free from surface defects and reduced in unevenness of thickness by molding a polyethylene naphthalate obtained by continuously polycondensing bis(hydroxyethyl) naphthalate into a film. CONSTITUTION:Bis(hydroxyethyl) naphthalate obtained by the transesterification or esterification of naphthalenedicarboxylic acid with ethylene glycol is continuously polycondensed at 230-310 deg.C in a vacuum to obtain polyethylene naphthalate having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.5-0.8 and a terminal carboxyl concentration of 45 equivalents/10 g or below. This polyethylene naphthalate is melt-extruded at 290-320 deg.C, and the extrudate is cooled with a cooling roll to obtain an unoriented film. This film is stretched in the machine and transverse directions at a stretch ratio of 3-10 for each direction, optionally stretched again in the machine direction at a stretch ratio of 1-3, and then heat-treated at 190-230 deg.C to obtain a polyethylene naphthalate having an average height of surface protrusions of 5-400nm.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a polyester composition giving a film having remarkably improved abrasion resistance and causing little damage to magnetic surface in high-speed transportation of the film. CONSTITUTION:A polyester produced by using an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a glycol as main constituent components, preferably an alkylene terephthalate or alkylene naphthalate as main constituent components is incorporated with 0.005-10wt.% (preferably 0.01-5wt.%) of polymer particles composed of an unsaturated polyester resin and having an average particle diameter of 0.01-5mum (preferably 0.03-1mum). The unsaturated polyester resin is crosslinked with a vinyl monomer and has a heat-resistance of preferably >=350 deg.C measured as the thermal decomposition temperature (10% weight-reduction temperature) by a thermobalance. The addition of the polymer particles is carried out e.g. by adding the polymer to the reaction system of the polyester in the form of powder or glycol slurry or kneading into the polyester in powdery form or in the form of slurry prepared by using a low-boiling solvent.
