    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition free from the crystallization of a polyester oligomer onto the surface of a film and useful for producing the film excellent in running properties by compounding an aromatic polyester with a specific sulfonic acid lithium salt. CONSTITUTION: This composition is obtained by compounding an aromatic polyester composed mainly of (A) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and (B) an alkylene glycol with (C) 0.1-10wt.% of a lithium salt of a sulfonic acid of the formula RXSO3 Li (R is a 5-30C normal alkyl; X is an aromatic group). Further, the composition is preferably compounded with (D) particles insoluble in the polyester, having an average particle diameter of 0.01-2μm and substantially spherical (e.g. colloidal silica or spherical alumina) in an amount of 0.1-10.0wt.% based on the polyester. A film, which has polyester oligomers crystallized on its surface, having diameters of >=0.2μm, of after 2-hr aging at 120 deg.C, can be obtained by using the composition.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To prepare the subject film suitable as a substrate film for a magnetic recording medium requiring fine and uniform surface projections, not causing occurrence of defect of foreign matters resulting from surface precipitate and contamination with contact materials, containing an amount of a low-molecular weight substance precipitated on the surface equal to or smaller than a specific amount. CONSTITUTION: This film is a polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate film containing low-molecular weight substance precipitated on the surface when heated at 170 deg.C for three hours and contains wax having 20-250 deg.C melting point.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To efficiently produce the subject polyester having a high softening point and not containing a foreign material by depolymerizing an aromatic polyester in an alkylene glycol, subsequently separating insoluble particles using a specified centrifugation separator and then carrying out polycondensation again. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic polyester is depolymerized by using an alkylene glycol component in an amount of 0.1 to 5.0mol based on 1mol acid component constituting the aromatic polyester. The resultant aromatic dicarboxylic acid glycol ester and low-molecular polymers are melted at 120 to 250 deg.C and the molten material is charged into a centrifugation separator equipped with plural discs in the inside. Polyester-insoluble particles are separated by centrifugation in a condition of 1X10 to 2X10 G centrifugal force and polycondensation is then carried out in the presence of a polycondensation catalyst such as a glycol- soluble antimony compound. Thus, the objective polyester can be obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a polyester composition having a low content of coarse particles by forming a polyester by the esterification and polycondensation of a dicarboxylic acid component based on an aromatic dicarboxylic acid with a glycol component and adding particles inert to the polyester under specified conditions during the course of its formation. CONSTITUTION:A process for producing a polyester by the esterification or transesterification of a dicarboxylic acid component (esterifiable derivative thereof) based on an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (e.g. dimethyl terephthalate) and a glycol component (e.g. ethylene glycol) and the subsequent polycondensation, wherein particles inert to the polyester (e.g. titanium dioxide particles) slurried in a glycol are continuously or intermittently added to the reaction system, while the glycol component is evaporated so that the ratio of the glycol component to the acid component in the reaction system may be in the range of 1.2-4 during the period from the substantial completion of the esterification or transesterification to the time when the intrinsic viscosity reaches 0.2 as a result of the progress of the polycondensation.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain polyester composition which gives a film excellent in traveling characteristics and abrasion resistance by incorporating specified polyimide particles into a polyester. CONSTITUTION:A polyester comprising, e.g. a homopolyester such as polyethylene terephthalate or a copolyester composed mainly thereof is mixed with polyimide particles having a mean particle diameter of 0.01-3mum and a strength (S10), at 10% deformation under an external force, of 3-30kgf/mm . Examples of the polyimide include those having a structure of any one of formulas I to V. It can easily be produced in particulate for by a known process; i.e. a tetracarboxylic acid anhydride is reacted with a diamine in an appropriate organic solvent to synthesize a polyimide precursor comprising a polyamic acid, and the obtained product is precipitated in a poor solvent for the polyamic acid, such as methanol, to form particles. The amount of the polyimide particles to be incorporated should be 0.01-5 wt.% based on the polyester.
