    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyarylene sulfide resin composition capable of remarkably increasing the crystallization rate, especially the crystallization rate at low temperatures without greatly deteriorating essential excellent characteristics. SOLUTION: This polyarylene sulfide resin composition is obtained by adding (b) 0.1-20 pts.wt. of an aromatic compound having a specific structure to (a) 100 pts.wt. of a polyarylene sulfide resin.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively obtain a polyarylene sulfide resin containing trace amounts of ionic impurities and with less gas evolution in a high yield. SOLUTION: This method for polyarylene sulfide resin production includes recovery of a polyarylene sulfide which is obtained by reacting a polyhalogen aromatic compound with a sulfidizing agent in a polar organic solvent and has the following processes of (1) a process for reacting the polyhalogen aromatic compound with the sulfidizing agent in the polar organic solvent at 200-290 deg.C to give a polymer and recovering the polymer by a flushing method, (2) a process for cleaning the obtained polymer with hot water at >=130 deg.C, (3) filtering the cleaned polymer into a filtrate and the polymer and (4) a process for treating the polymer with an acidic aqueous solution at >=130 deg.C.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently manufacturing in a short time a high-molecular weight PAS reduced in the oligomer content. SOLUTION: In a method for manufacturing a polyarylene sulfide by reacting a polyhalogenated aromatic compound with a sulfidizing agent in an organic polar solvent at a temperature of at least 200 deg.C and lower than 290 deg.C, the reaction above comprises at least the following steps 1 and 2, step 1: a step for forming a prepolymer of a polyarylene sulfide by reacting a polyhalogenated aromatic compound with a sulfidizing agent at a molar ratio of the solvent to the charged sulfidizing agent of at least 3.5 and at most 10.0, and step 2: a step for converting the prepolymer into the high-molecular weight polyarylene sulfide in the presence of a polymerization auxiliary by adjusting the molar ratio of the solvent to the charged sulfidizing agent to at least 1.5 and less than 3.5.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyphenylene sulfide resin composition having an excellent balance of flexibility and impact resistance that are excellently balanced with heat resistance, heat stability and chemical resistance inherent to the polyphenylene sulfide resin, the resin composition being suitable for injection molding and available for a structured body. SOLUTION: This polyphenylene sulfide resin composition is a resin composition wherein (a) a polyphenylene sulfide resin and (b) an olefin-based resin occupy >=80 wt.% of the total resin composition, the content of (b) is 15-42 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of (a), and the resin composition has a tensile elongation at break of >=50% according to ASTM-D638 at 23 deg.C and a relative humidity of 50%, and an Izod impact strength of >=700 J/m measured according to ASTM-D256.

SOLUTION: In the method for producing a polyphenylene sulfide by reacting an alkali metal sulfide with a dihaloaromatic compound at a temp. of 200 deg.C or higher but lower than 290 deg.C in an organic amide solvent in the presence of a polymerization assistant, the water content in at least a part of the whole polymerization step is set in a specified range and the ratio of the amount of water to that of the polymerization assistant is specified.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition with high whiteness prevented from discoloration by incorporating a hydrous polyphenylene sulfide resin (PPS resin) with a specified amount of a hypophosphite salt solute. SOLUTION: This composition is obtained by incorporating (A) 100 pts.wt., on a dry basis, of a hydrous PPS resin containing pref. >=5 wt.% of moisture with (B) 0.01-3 pts.wt. of a hypophosphite salt (e.g. sodium hypophosphite, calcium hypophosphite) pref. in the form of a solution with a concentration of 0.1-50 wt.% followed by drying; wherein in the component A, the PPS resin pref. contain recurring unit of the formula at >=70 mol.%. Furthermore, incorporation of this composition with (C) an alkoxysilane compound bearing functional group selected from epoxy, amino isocyanate, hydroxyl, mercapto and ureido groups (e.g. γ-glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane) improves the mechanical strength of this composition.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin compsn. which gives a molded article excellent in resistances to heat and chemicals, toughness, and surface smoothness by compounding a polyphenylene sulfide resin, a polyamide resin and/or a satd. polyester resin, and a functional thermoplastic resin. SOLUTION: This compsn. is prepd. by melt mixing 100 pts.wt. polyphenylene sulfide resin (A) with at least a part of 1-200 pts.wt. thermoplastic resin (C) having functional groups selected from among epoxy, acid anhydride, carboxyl and its salt and ester groups and melt mixing the resultant mixture with the rest of ingredient C and 5-200 pts.wt. polyamide resin and/or satd. polyester resin (B). The compsn. is prepd. so that, when the surface of a gut obtd. by charging the compsn. into a melt indexer (315.5 deg.C, a dwell time of 5 min, a load of 5 kg, an orifice diameter of 0.0825 in, and a length of 0.315 in) is reflected with a projector, the number of projections having a height of 25 μm or higher and observed on the surface is one or less per cm of the gut.
