    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a styrene resin composition excellent in the balance between stiffness and heat resistance without detriment to impact strength, clarity, and moldability by compounding a styrene resin with a specified amount of a layered silicate which is homogeneously dispersed therein without exhibiting secondary aggregation. SOLUTION: This composition comprises 70-99.9 wt.% styrene resin and 0.1-30 wt.% layered silicate homogeneously dispersed therein without causing secondary aggregation and has a total light transmission of 60% or higher. The styrene resin has a wt. averge mol.wt. of 50,000-300,000 and an Izod impact strength of 50-200 J/m and is polystyrene, a high-impact polystyrene, an ABS resin, an MBS resin, or the like. The layered silicate has a structure wherein plates having a width of 0.05-0.5 μm and a thickness of 6-15 Å are piled up, examples being montmorillonite and hectorite. The silicate is an inclusion compound wherein interlayer exchangeable cations have been exchanged by organic onium ions (e.g. ammonium ions).

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low-density resin compsn. excellent in stiffness, toughness, and impact resistance by melt mixing and kneading a thermoplastic polyester with a nonfibrous inorg. filler and an org. compd. having a functional group reactive with the thermoplastic polyester. SOLUTION: This compsn. is prepd. by melt mixing and kneading 100 pts.wt. thermoplastic polyester, pref. a polyalkylene terephthalate, with a nonfibrous inorg. filler, pref. a silicate compd., pref. in an amt. of 0.1-40 wt.% (in terms of inorg. ash in the compsn.) and an org. compd., pref. in an amt. of 0.05-10 pts.wt., having at least one functional group reactive with the thermoplastic polyester. Pref., the org. compd. having at least one functional group reactive with the thermoplastic polyester is an olefin compd. (polymer) having a carboxylic anhydride group. Pref., the nonfibrous inorg. filler is a layered silicate having its interlayer exchangeable cations exchanged by org. onium ions.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyamide resin compsn, which hardly becomes warped, is excellent in resistances to heat and impact, exhibits a small change in dimension by water absorption, and is suitable for electric pats housing, such as connectors, relay boxes, junction boxes, and fuse boxes, of automobiles. SOLUTION: This compsn. is prepd. by compounding, based on 100 pts.wt. sum of ingredients A to D, (A) 30-90 pts.wt. polyamide resin, (B) 5-40 pts.wt. inorg, silicate filler, (C) 5-40 pts.wt. olefin polymer graft-modified with an unsatd, dicarboxylic acid and/or an unsatd. dicarboxylic acid deriv., and (D) 0-40 pts.wt. olefin polymer other than ingredient C, provided at least 50% of dispersed particles of ingredient B is independently dispersed in ingredient A.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition excellent in a balance between rigidity and toughness and capable of weight reduction by melt-kneading a thermoplastic polyester having a specified terminal carboxy content and a layered silicate derived by exchanging the exchangeable cations present among layers for organic onium ions. SOLUTION: The thermoplastic polyester has a terminal carboxy content of 10-80 eq/t and is particularly desirably polybutylene terephthalate, polyethylene terephthalate, polyethylene-2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate, or the like. The organic onium ions are desirably ammonium ions or phosphonium ions between which the former ions are particularly desirable. Among the ammonium ions, phenyl-containing ammonium ions are particularly desirable. The content of the layered silicate is usually 0.1-40 wt.% (in terms of the inorganic ash content in the composition).

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a molded item which does not undergo degradation in strengths or toughness at high temp. and humidity by using a polyester resin compsn. prepd. by melt mixing a polyolefin with an unsatd. carboxylic acid and mixing the resultant mixture in a molten state with a thermoplastic polyester. SOLUTION: This resin compsn. is prepd. by melt mixing a polyolefin with an unsatd. carboxylic acid (deriv.) and mixing the resultant mixture in a molten state with a thermoplastic polyester. The polyolefin is an α-olefin (co)polymer and is pref. selected from among polyethylene, polypropylene, and an EP rubber. The acid is pref. an anhydride such as maleic anhydride. An esp. prepf. example of the polyester is polybutylene terephthalate. A thermoplastic polyester having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.52-1.35dl/g is suitable in terms of mechanical strengths and moldability. If necessary, a thermoplastic polyester, which may be the same as or different from one described above, may be further mixed into the compsn. Thus prepd. compsn. is suitable for a thin-walled molded item and is useful for a molded item having a hinge part, esp. for a wire harness connector.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject part, excellent in low water absorptivity, calcium chloride resistance, rigidity, heat resistance and mechanical strength by molding a blend containing a specific polyamide resin, a specified aliphatic compound and a specific inorganic filler in a specified proportion.
