    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a polyester film improved in abrasion resistance by melt extruding a polyester compsn. contg. agglomerates formed from primary particles with a specified mean diameter to thereby form a film contg. agglomerates with a mean diameter smaller than that of the agglomerates before the melt extrusion. CONSTITUTION:A polyester compsn., e.g. a polyalkylene terephthalate compsn., contg. agglomerates with a mean diameter of 50-2,000mum and formed from primary particles, such as of ZrO2, with a mean diameter of 1-50mum is melt extruded with e.g. a Dulmage type screw extruder at the m.p. of the polyester or higher but not higher than the m.p. plus 60 deg.C, giving a polyester film contg. 0.05-5wt.% agglomerates with a mean diameter of 30-500mum. The film is stretched longitudinally and transversely and thermaly set to give a biaxially oriented polyester film.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a composition providing a film having a surface hardly injured, showing excellent scratching resistance and wear resistance by blending an aromatic polyester with a fluorine compound and inert particles having specific particle diameters, respectively. CONSTITUTION:The composition comprises (A) 0.01-2 pts.wt. of fluorine compound (preferably calcium fluoride) having 0.002-0.2mum average diameter of primary particles, (B) 0.01-5 pts.wt. of inert particles having 0.2-1mum average diameter of primary particles and (C) 99.98-93 pts.wt. of an aromatic polyester (preferably polyethylene terephthalate). The component B is preferably titanium oxide in the case of inorganic particles and preferably a divinylbenzene homopolymer in the case of organic particles. The component A and the inert inorganic particles are added to the polyester reaction system by a method of supplying them in a state of a glycol slurry and the inert organic particles are incorporated with the polyester in a shape of a slurry using water, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a polyester which contains colloidal silica of an improved affinity and can give a fiber or film of excellent abrasion resistance by adding colloidal silica surface-treated with acrylic acid to the reaction system during the polycondensation of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid with a glycol. CONSTITUTION:A process for the production of a polyester mainly consisting of a polyester comprising a dicarboxylic acid based on an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its esterifiable derivative and a glycol, desirably an alkylene terephthalate or an alkylene naphthalate, wherein colloidal silica at least part of whose surface is treated with a silane, titanium or like coupling agent (of a volume shape factor of 0.35-0.52 and a particle diameter of 0.01-5.0mmu) is added to the reaction system before the completion of the polycondensation reaction to obtain an abrasion-resistant polyester. The amount of addition is 0.01-30 pts.wt., particularly desirably 0.1-10 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. polyester.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester composition which can be molded into a film, a fiber or the like improved in antistatic properties by dispersing inert inorganic particles subjected to a specified surface treatment in a polyester. CONSTITUTION:Inert inorganic particles having a negative xsi-potential value and a mean particle diameter of 10-3000mum and being surface-treated with 0.01-40 pts.wt. (per 100 pts.wt. inert inorganic particles) compound having at least one amino group and at least one sulfonic group and/or metal sulfonate group are dispersed in a polyester mainly consisting of an aromatic acid dicarboxylic acid and a glycol and mainly consisting of repeating units of an aromatic carboxylate to obtain an antistatic polyester composition containing 0.01-5.0 pts.wt. above compound. This polyester composition can exhibit its antistatic effect when molded into a fiber, a film or other molding, and is desirable especially as a magnetic tape film which is repeatedly used in a state of contact friction.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a composition capable of simultaneously satisfying the surface characteristics and suitability of molded products such as films or fibers by compounding a polyester with a polyester oligomer having >= two organic polysiloxane chains in a pendant state.
