Abstract: A bellows-type hydraulic accumulator includes a shell, a bellows unit, and a stay in order to accumulate pressurized liquid within a liquid chamber, divided into a fixed-volume liquid chamber and a variable-volume liquid chamber communicating with the fixed-volume liquid chamber via a communication port formed in the stay. Abstract: For a hydraulically actuated device a hydraulic power cylinder with an actuator slidably received for reciprocation within the cylinder and a piston slidably received for reciprocation within a sleeve of the actuator and defining a gas chamber on one side of the piston and a hydraulic fluid chamber on the other side of the piston so that the maximum pressure in the hydraulic fluid chamber is limited as a function of the force of compressed gas in the gas chamber acting on the piston. In this way, the maximum system pressure is a function of and substantially corresponds to the pressure of the compressed gas within the gas chamber and acting on the piston. Desirably, the pressure of the compressed gas in the gas chamber can be readily changed to change the maximum hydraulic fluid pressure.

Abstract: Disclosed is an accumulator for use on hydraulic brake systems. The accumulator includes a housing, a pressurization cap which is threadably connected into the housing and a resilient bulb contained within a volume between the housing and pressurization cap. The resilient bulb provides a flexible volume which can expand in response to high pressure surges and shock waves experienced by the braking system. The bulb is contained primarily within an interior cavity formed in the pressurization cap. The resilient bulb is constructed in a size and shape which causes an annular volume between the bulb and pressurization cap to be pre-pressurized when the accumulator is assembled together. The accumulator is also provided with a particularly effective sealing arrangement to prevent leakage of air and hydraulic fluid from around the bulb.

Abstract: The hydropneumatic accumulator disclosed herein comprises a rigid upright vessel, the mouth of which is at the bottom, containing an inverted bag-like bladder. The mouths of the vessel and of the bladder are sealed to one another. The bladder extends upwardly within the vessel interior and divides the same into inner and outer compartments which respectively contain an incompressible liquid medium and a compressible gaseous medium. To protect the bladder from damage by uncontrolled flexure of its wall in response to variations in the relative pressures within the inner and outer compartments, an inverted conical shape-defining member projects down into the upper closed end of the bladder and a perforated rigid shell projects upwardly into the bottom of the bladder. In addition, vertically extending circumferentially spaced stiffening ribs are formed in the wall of the bladder to hold the bladder upright.
