Abstract:
A new adhesive method using an adhesive composition including cyanoacrylate adhesive and a stabilizing agent to join together portions of a substrate, particularly useful in suturing and similar medical procedures, is disclosed. It is based on the discovery that remarkable improvements are obtained by adding a step of removing stabilizing agent from such adhesive compositions coincidently with the prior known steps of (a) providing an adhesive composition including cyanoacrylate adhesive and a stabilizing agent, (b) presenting a substrate to receive at least a portion of such cyanoacrylate adhesive and (c) applying such portion to the substrate. Devices for use in performing the method are disclosed.
Abstract:
A paving composition is disclosed comprising a bituminous material, such as asphalt, and a reaction product of at least one polycarboxylic acid reacted with at least one polyamine. The composition preferably is substantially free of water. The reaction product can be a diamide compound. The paving composition can further include mineral aggregate. The paving composition can be used in applications such as road construction or repair.
Abstract:
Durable self-adhesive laminates for use as supports for labeling comprising: (a) a thermoplastic resin film having (A) a label-receiving side and (B) an adhesive side, the label-receiving side consisting of a controlled-release surface without making use of a coated release substance and adapted to support a removable label attachable thereto by means comprising attraction forces between the resin film and a label; and (b) an adhesive having an ultimate release energy level greater than the attraction forces between the resin film and a removable label or labels.
Abstract:
A fire resistant, self-adhesive rolled roofing membrane is used on low sloped roofs for insulating a surface from weather. The roofing membrane includes an asphalt-saturated fibrous material having a roofing surface area, for example, roofing granules on a portion of the top surface and a clean surface area on another portion of the top surface. The roofing membrane includes an adhesive surface area on a portion of the bottom surface opposite the roofing surface area and a parting agent covered surface area on another portion of the bottom surface generally opposite the clean surface area to prevent adhering to the clean surface area when rolled. The adhesive surface area includes a layer of self-adhesive material, such as rubberized asphalt, capable of adhering to the clean surface area when strips of the roofing membrane are overlapped. The adhesive surface area is covered with a release backing to prevent adherence to the roofing surface area. The fibrous material is saturated with an oxidized asphalt with mineral filler and the rubberized asphalt adhesive material is minimized to provide fire resistance.
Abstract:
A treatment for silicone liner coatings after undergoing UV curing. The silicone coats a liner to facilitate its removal from the adhesive attached to a label. The silicone, while a liquid, forms a layer on the liner. UV radiation cures the liquid silicone and causes it to become a coherent, virtually solid layer. Heating the cured silicone layer and allowing it to rest for a short period of time then permits the immediate contact with it of the label's adhesive side without incurring inseparability of the silicone-coated liner from the adhesive-coated label.
Abstract:
Addition-crosslinking silicone rubber mixtures and a process for coating substrate surfaces and shaped composites with this mixture are disclosed. The addition-crosslinking silicone rubber mixture comprises at least the following constituents: (a) a cyclic, linear or branched organopolysiloxane which contains on average at least two alkenyl groups per molecule and has a viscosity of from 0.01 to 30,000 Pas; (b) a cyclic, linear or branched organohydrogenpolysiloxane which may contain dimethylsilyloxy groups and preferably has on average at least two SiH groups per molecule; and (c) a catalytically effective amount of the compound cis-dichlorobis(styrene) platinum(II), which may have been dissolved in a suitable organic solvent, where the molar ratio of the SiH groups present in the mixture to the Si-bonded alkenyl groups present in the mixture is at least 1.5, preferably from about 1.5 to 4.5 and more preferably from about 1.8 to about 2.5.
Abstract:
A securement device includes a simply-structured retention mechanism that permits a portion of a catheter hub or a similar medical article to be easily anchored to a patient, without the use of tape or needles and suturing. A unitary retainer desirably includes a base defining a locator mechanism. The locator mechanism interacts with a fitting of the medical device so as to position the medical device relative to the retainer. The locator mechanism also desirably guides the medical device fitting into contact with an adhesive member mounted on an outer surface of the retainer. In one form, the locator mechanism includes one or more posts that engage mating holes defined in the medical device fitting. In other forms, the locator mechanism includes a cradle defining an arcuate channel to receive a convex surface of the medical device, or a recess shaped to matingly receive the fitting. The retainer is attached to a flexible anchor pad that includes an adhesive bottom surface, which can be attached to the patient's skin. In use, a health care provider positions the medical device fitting on the retainer in a position established and guided by the locator mechanism, and attaches the fitting to the retainer via the adhesive member.
Abstract:
A hand-held adhesive trough is provided which enables a floor or wall installer to comfortably hold in one hand an adhesive trough while using a bladed tool such as a trowel or tape knife with the other hand to apply adhesive to an underlying surface to which a floor or wall is to be installed. The trough includes a first compartment for fresh adhesive, and a second compartment for contaminated adhesive removed from the blade of the trowel. A trowel blade cleaner is incorporated in a wall of the second compartment to enable the installer to clean the trowel while holding the trough by sliding the blade through a v-shaped slot, with the old, contaminated adhesive falling from the blade into the second compartment. The compartments may include removable, disposable liners to ease clean-up. A comfortable, pistol-grip type handle is provided which may include a two-part adhesive for allowing the installer to form a custom-grip handle which conforms to the installer's grip.
Abstract:
A storage stable, fast drying multi-component aqueous coating composition which includes an anionically stabilized binder polymer, a vinylamine polymer and a volatile base is disclosed. A method for using the aqueous coating composition to produce a coating on the surface of a substrate is further disclosed, along with the coating produced.
