Abstract:
The present invention relates to an in vitro method for diagnosis and/or determining severity of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. The method determines presence and/or quantity of at least one EBV marker, preferably EBV-EBER and/or antibody against EBV antigen, in a sample obtained from a subject. The method may further be used to discriminate between Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device for transmission of incoming radiation comprising a plate of a transparent material provided with a first flat side and a second side opposed to the first side, the second side being provided with a prismatic structure with certain magic apex angle which has a first and a second angle, wherein the apex angle of the prismatic structure is equal to a magic apex angle. The device can be applied advantageously in greenhouses and solar collectors to maintain a substantially constant transmission of incoming radiation from the sun during a long period of the day. To adjust the level of the limited transmission between a minimum transmission of 50% and the Fresnel transmission the prismatic structure can be provided with flat portions between the prisms.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method for screening for colorectal cancer, the method comprising: screening a biological sample from an individual for one or more biomarkers selected from the group defined in Table 1 and/or Table 6, wherein the presence of or increased expression of the one or more biomarkers relative to a control sample is indicative that the individualis at risk of suffering from or is suffering from colorectal cancer. The invention also provides an array and kit suitable for use in the methods of the invention, methods of treating colorectal cancer and therapeutic agents for use in methods of treating cancer.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to multiplex assays for monitoring multiple variables, such as the effects of a biological condition on a biological system. Reporter systems are provided for performing such assays.
Abstract:
A method for determining toxicity of a sample, particularly a soil sample suspected of containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon pollutants, is provided. The method allows for quantification of toxicity levels based on gene expression profiling of a test organism, for example Folsomia candida, exposed to the sample.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to methods of diagnosing and treating autism. The disclosure provides diagnostic methods based on identifying alterations in the AUTS2 gene, in particular in the AUTS2 short isoform. The disclosure further relates to therapeutic interventions utilizing the newly identified alternative transcript.
Abstract:
A molecular manipulation apparatus for investigating molecules attached on one side to a surface of a sample and on another side to a bead. The apparatus having a radiation system for providing a radiation beam of radiation with a radiation intensity to the sample and the surface of the sample is transmissive for the radiation. The apparatus is provided with a sample holder for holding the sample with its transmissive surface within the beam of radiation. The apparatus has a detector for detecting a position of the beads; and, a computer programmed for calculating a physical property of the molecules as a function of the position of the plurality of beads.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a system for predicting the viability of a body tissue in a patient. The system comprises a computing device (1), and a first pressure measuring device (2) for measuring local perfusion pressure in the body tissue of the patient. This measuring device is connected to the computing device. A second pressure measuring device (5) is provided for measuring the systemic perfusion pressure of the patient, said second pressure measuring device being connected to the computing device. A feedback indicator (6) is connected to the computing device and is adapted to indicate the viability of the tissue calculated by the computing device on the basis of the measured local and systemic perfusion pressures. The invention also includes a method of predicting the viability of the body tissue and to the first pressure measuring device.
Abstract:
The invention relates to compounds, in particular polypeptides that specifically bind to the non-classical MHC protein CD1d and modulate CD1d-mediated biological functions. The invention in particular relates to such compounds and polypeptides comprising or consisting of at least one single domain antibody, and wherein at least one single domain antibody specifically binds to CD1d. Also provided is for methods and use employing such compounds, polypeptides and/or single-domain antibodies.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the fields of medicine and molecular diagnostics. In particular, it relates to a novel method for the treatment, prevention and/or delay of cancer and to a diagnostic method involving detection of a novel auto-active and intracellular mutant of MET.
