Abstract: A liquid crystal display device and a driving method thereof are provided to improve image quality of the LCD device by enhancing a charging ratio of a data voltage by performing preliminary and main charging processes. An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) panel(300) includes RGB pixels, gate lines, and data lines. The gate lines are connected to the pixels in a first direction, while the data lines are connected to the pixel in a second direction. A timing controller(600) includes a vertical synchronization start signal generator and a vertical synchronization start signal regulator. The vertical synchronization start signal generator supplies a first vertical synchronization start signal. The vertical synchronization start signal regulator receives the first vertical synchronization start signal and first and second gate clock signals and adjusts the first vertical synchronization start signal, so that rising edges of the first and second gate clock signals are overlapped with an activation period of the first vertical synchronization start signal, at a start timing of an N-th horizontal period. Gate drivers(400L,400R) receive a second vertical synchronization start signal and the first and second clock signals and sequentially outputs gate signals having first and second gate-on voltages. The first gate-on voltage is used to perform a preliminary charging process during the N-th horizontal period. The second gate-on voltage is used to perform a main charging process during an N+1-th horizontal period.

Abstract: An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to output a data signal suitable for a pixel structure of a liquid crystal panel and normally drive the LCD without an error by dividing color data through a plurality of output lines in response to a clock signal and a data activation signal, and thus providing a timing controller outputting one color data among the color data. A liquid crystal panel(100) includes a plurality of gate lines(G1-Gm) and a plurality of source lines intersecting the gate lines to display an image. A timing controller(200) receives red, green and blue data corresponding to color data of one horizontal line of the image, and sequentially outputs the data. The timing controller divides one color data among those color data through a plurality of output lines in response to a clock signal and a data activation signal, and outputs the color data. A source driver(300) drives the plurality of source lines in response to a horizontal synchronization start signal and the red, green and blue data output from the timing controller. A gate driver(400) drives the plurality of gate lines in response to a horizontal synchronization start signal output from the timing controller.
