Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the production of an alkyl aromatic compound from an aromatic compound and an alkane. According to said method, (A) the alkane is dehydrogenized to form the corresponding alkene, whereby a product gas flow is obtained, containing the alkene, the unreacted alkane and additional constituents, (B) the alkane and alkene are together separated from the additional constituents in said product gas flow and (C) the aromatic compound is alkylated with the alkene to form said alkyl aromatic compound. Alkane dehydrogenation (A) is preferably executed autothermally.

Abstract: Acrolein and acrylic acid are produced from propane and propene by absorption/desorption of propane and propene from a gas mixture followed by oxidation, in which no heterogeneously catalyzed dehydrogenation of propane occurs between the desorption and oxidation stages without addition of oxygen. Acrolein and acrylic acid are produced from propane and propene by: (a) separation of propane and propene from a gas mixture (A) by absorption in an absorption medium; (b) separation of propane and propene from the absorbent to give a mixture (B) containing propane and propene; and (c) using mixture (B) for oxidation to the required product(s). In this process, no catalytic dehydrogenation of propane without the addition of oxygen is carried out between stages (b) and (c).
