    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the transmittivity when a picture element shutter is open by polymerizing the monomers which have a hydrophilic part and hydrophobic part in combination within the same molecule and are formed into films as monomolecular films or cumulative monomolecular films and patterning the polymers, thereby forming org. films. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal element is disposed with orientation control films 14a, 14b consisting of the org. films formed and patterned respectively with the polymerizable monomolecular films or cumulative monomolecular films on substrates 11a, 11b. The molecules which have polymerizable parts in the molecules and have the hydrophilic part and hydrophobic part in combination are usable as the molecules to constitute the monomolecular films or cumulative monomolecular films. An unsatd. hydrocarbon group which has at least one vinylene, vinylidene, acetylene group, etc. and is of a straight or branch chain is usable as the element to constitute such polymerizable part of the molecule.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make a titled film usable as a resist and recording material having high sensitivity and high resolution by appolying polymn. energy to a compsn. contg. a transition metal and polymerizable compd. to obtain the thin polymerizable film which repeats a solubilized state and insolubilized state with a solvent. CONSTITUTION:(a): The diacetlylene deriv. expressed by the formula is used as the polymerizable compd. In the formula, R, R1 denote a hydrophobic section, X denotes a hydrophilic section and n is 0 or 1. (b): Ions, complexes, salts, etc., of chromium, manganese, etc., are used as the transition metal. The polymerizable compd. contg. the polymerizable compd. of (a) and the transition metal of (b) is obtd. Such polymerizable compd. is formed into the thin polymerizable film by a monomolecular accumulation method and the thin film is provided on a substrate. The thin film periodically repeats the solubilized state and insolubilized state with the solvent according to the irradiation quantity of the polymn. energy (for example, heat, UV rays, electron rays, X-rays, etc.). Since the thin polymerizable film is used, the adhesiveness to the substrate is good and the film quality is made uniform. The thin polymerizable film is thus made usable as the resist and recording material.

CONSTITUTION:A soln. obtained by adding >=1 kinds of compd. shown by the general formula (1) or (2) to a polydiacetylene derivative compd. is coated on a discoid substrate made of glass and dried to form an optical recording medium. UV rays of 254nm are uniformly and sufficiently irradiated on the optical recording medium to polymerize the DA compd. in the recording medium to convert the recording layer into a blue film. Meanwhile, a semiconductor laser or a light emitting diode 10 radiating visible radiation in the region of wavelength in the range 550-750nm is used as an information reading means. A semiconductor laser 2 radiating IR in the region of wavelength in the range 800-900nm is used as the information writing means.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable high-quality images to be optically recorded, by a method wherein a recording layer comprising a polydiacetylene derivative compound (PDA) and an azulenium salt compound (AZ) having a skeleton of a predetermined general formula is irradiated with IR rays of a wavelength of 800-850nm according to recording information to case a color change. CONSTITUTION:An azulenium salt compound (AZ compound) having a skeleton of general formula (1), wherein each of R1-R7 is hydrogen, a halogen or a monovalent organic residue, generates heat when being irradiated with IR rays of a wavelength of not less than 750nm. When entire body of a recording layer is irradiated with UV rays, a diacetylene derivative compound is polymerized to be a polydiacetylene derivative compound (PDA), with a color change to blue or a dark color. Input information is processed in a controlling circuit 3, is converted into an optical signal by an IR semiconductor laser 2 with a wavelength of 800-850nm, and is guided through an optical system to form an image at a predetermined position of an optical recording medium having a recording layer of a blue or dark color which is synchronously rotated, upon which the PDA compound at that part does not absorb the laser beams of the wavelength, while the AZ compound salt absorbs the laser beams to generate heat, which is transferred to the adjacent PDA compound to turn the latter red. Accordingly, an optical record can be obtained through a color change at recording parts according to the input information.
