Abstract: The invention relates to a complete method for producing pure silicon that is suitable for use as solar-grade silicon, comprising the reduction of a purified silicon oxide using one or more pure carbon sources, the purified silicon oxide, which was purified as silicon oxide dissolved in an aqueous phase, having a content of other polyvalent metals or metal oxides, in relation to the silicon oxide, of less than or equal to 300 ppm, preferably less than 100 ppm, especially preferably less than 50 ppm and according to the invention less than 10 ppm of the other metals and being obtained advantageously by gel formation in alkaline conditions. The invention also relates to a formulation containing an activator and to the use of purified silicon oxide together with an activator for producing silicon.

Abstract: The present invention refers to a process for the catalytic epoxidation of olefins in the presence of a titanium containing zeolite catalyst and a polar solvent whereby the deactivation of the catalyst upon recycling of the solvent has been considerably reduced. In the process one or more nitrogen containing compounds are introduced at some stage, a solvent stream is recovered, treated to contain less than 50 wppm nitrogen in the form of organic nitrogen compounds and at least a part of it is recycled to the epoxidation step. The invention is also directed towards a process for the catalytic epoxidation of propene which integrates the inventive treatment and recycle of the solvent into the workup of the reaction mixture.

A process for the hydrogenation of aromatic urethanes having one or more aromatic rings and at least one urethane group that is directly and/or indirectly bonded to at least one aromatic ring, comprises reaction of the aromatic urethanes with hydrogen in the presence of a supported catalyst (I) comprising 0.01-20 wt.% ruthenium, optionally with at least one Group 1, 7 or 8 metal as the active metal on a support having a BET surface area of 30-70 m2/g and greater than 50 % of the pore volume comprising macropores having a pore diameter of greater than 50 nm and less than 50 % mesopores having a pore diameter of 2-50 nm.
